Yesterday was Barronmore and my 11th anniversary and for the first time in about 5 years there wasn't an emergency or family concern that kept us from celebrating it that day.
We had heard good things about The Steak & Seafood Co restaurant over by the Red Cliffs Mall so we went to check it out. The first thing that catches your eye is that it opens at 5pm, a sign of a serious restaurant. The second thing is the saltwater fish tank you come face to face with when you walk in. It was rather pretty with a rounded edge facing the door. The decor was eclectic, the lights low, the staff very friendly. The menu was based entirely on what they could get fresh, this is a quality steak house.
Appetizers ran between app $5-$10, we didn't have any though they sounded delicious.
While they do offer fish and chips, and while we were in there several people came in and ordered them, in the end Barronmore ordered a New York Strip Steak and I ordered the Duck with Raspberry Sauce (both $18.95 each). Both came with a perfectly sized predressed salad. Barronmore's Blue Cheese Dressing included actual crumbled blue cheese. I had their Honey Poppyseed dressing which was nicely sweet and not flavored of vinegar like some places. I dipped my slice of the fresh baked loaf that came with them in the dressing and was in heaven. That is I thought I was until the course came. Oh my! I have not had duck that good since my family raised our own some years ago! If that is the difference fresh meat makes to duck I am not sure I can buy a frozen one ever again. The half duck had been rubbed with a spice mix of oregano, rosemary, sage, celery salt, salt and pepper then pan fried to perfection. The Raspberry sauce was delicious and not to sweet, the berries were the star of the flavor and it went perfectly with the seasoning on the duck. Barronmore's med-rare steak was perfectly cooked and juicy with lightly sauteed mushrooms and onions. The vegetables were fresh and lightly steamed. The rice pilaf light and fluffy. It was all so good I could barely finish but savored every bite.
Then it was time for desert (between $3.50 and $6). I was absolutely full after the duck. If we hadn't been planning to go to a movie I would have only eaten half the duck and ordered some of the Chocolate Mousse Pie but there was no room. Barronmore didn't have that problem (of course) and ordered a slice of White Chocolate Cheesecake. It was rich and light at the same time with a perfect blending of the white chocolate and the cream cheese. There was a drizzle of cherry sauce around the plate that Barronmore would dip the forkfuls in as he ate every last crumb.
All in all it was nice to go to a fine dinning restaurant again and this is one I will go back to. Next time I am having the Chocolate Mousse Pie or maybe the Creme Brulee, or both.
