Press Release: IRON CHEF GETS A NEW PLATFORM Building off the success of the recent spin off reality series, The Next Iron Chef, which premiered to 3.3 million viewers on Food Network, licensee Destineer will release the Nintendo Wii Iron Chef America video game. Offering players an interactive experience where they can be an Iron Chef, the game will make its way to retail in 2Q08. Link at a Nintendo fansite: gonintendo.com/?p=32857----------------------- I own a Wii myself, and will definitely be purchasing this. For anyone there who thinks they are too old to play games, try out a Wii and you'll see that video games are just as fun for adults as they are for kids. For those unfamiliar with the system, it picks up real-life movements, which means we'll actually be "cooking" virtual food and "slicing" ingredients" by doing all the necessary hand motions. Some further research shows that the game will be produced by Destineer: www.destineerstudios.com/

I'd be a bit worried about this, actually. According to the research article, the licensor was Food Network, and not Fuji TV. There may be some copyright issues here, unless the license ownership issue is clarified.
(There's also the question of whether the game will use the likenesses of the real ICs, or if they make up some new ones specifically for the game. Flay et al. would be perfectly right to insist on being paid for their likenesses' use.)

I guess it was only a matter of time....there's video games on just about every other subject.

I have a Wii. (Actually, it's my brother who owns the system. I just helped my mother bring it out of the local Target about a year ago after buying it for him as a late Christmas gift.) If you think I'm not going to see if I can get my hands on a copy of this game, you're crazy. I have to try it to see how I fare. I'm probably going to suck at it, but it's worth a shot regardless.

It may be that FN will be OK as long as they make some sort of disclaimer about the orignal format being the property of Fuji - like they do now at the end of each ICA TV episode.

I think FN had to have permission from Fuji to do this. I'm sure Fuji was informed about ICA when it was first released.
Sounds like a good idea. I don't own a Wii (or have any desire to), so I won't be playing. I hope it sells well, though.

If the teaser trailer in the Joystiq article is of any indication, the Iron Chefs will appear in the game(at least Flay, Morimoto and Batali will), and it is licensed by Fuji TV so I think that the possibility of ICJ chefs being in the game is there.
As for my getting the game, I'll wait for more details to emerge before I buy it, or if it is released as a bargin title.
