Stopping in to see what is left of the original Iron Chef community online. Sadly, it looks like it has dwindled to almost nothing these days. I remember fondly how there was once a rather flourishing community (for a niche market such as this) that loyally followed the show. Alas, it appears as though that interest has died, even though so many new episodes are being made available by tuthead.
Does anyone have any info regarding the fan community as of late? I hope, and I pray, that tuthead maintains his database for the cultural and historical significance it represents, despite the slim number of hardcore fans remaining. Personally, in my spare time, I am watching the Iron Chef lineup from earliest episode to last, based on what is in my collection. It is quite the experience!
Anyway, I am not trying to diminish this site's efforts, and quite honestly I am pleasantly surprised to see it still up and running. All the same, I guess I just wish that the good days would return.

Ironnut!!!!!! Great to hear from you!!!! ;D Yes, things are pretty quiet around here, for a variety of reasons....people have other priorites, there's less ability to watch ICJ, and ICA fans aren't rabid (in a good way )about that show the way ICJ fans are. Personally, I wish the rest of ICJ had been made available for broadcast with subtitles/overdub...I have to admit I got tired of watching the same shows over and over...many quality battles were never aired over here. I sure hope all is well with you and yours...don't be such a stranger...

Hi HC! I will do my best to not be a stranger - but there needs to be a spark to re-ignite the fanbase. I wonder if anyone can tell me, honestly, if this site will be going down soon like the rest. It costs money to maintain a Web site, and I find it hard to believe that a few posts a month make it worth ManAlive's while to keep this going. That said, I repeat that I am glad that a candle is still lit years after the show stopped running on Food Network If I had the time and dedication (and a little training in Web development), I would make a site of my own. I believe that Iron Chef is too culturally important to be forgotten, yet forgotten it has become by and large. As for your comment regarding the recycling of episodes, have you ever tried watching them in order of broadcast? As I said, it is quite the experience. I just watched Battle #50 (Shark Fin) last night, and I am realizing that it is almost like watching the battles for the first time. If you can get past the uneven-ness in tone and dubbing (remember the earlier episodes were broadcast in North America later), you will catch things that make more sense when watched in order. Combine this with the "new" episodes availabe at Tut's site, and you can re-visit the show and stay busy for quite awhile. Get a DivX-certified multimedia player for your TV, and you're in for an even better experience! Anyway, I will try my best to maintain the faith. Good to see a few old friends lingering, in any case

Hi ironnut! It's great to hear from you again!
The fanbase has indeed dwindled from its former glory. It seems that the strength of the fanbase hinged upon ICJ's strong television presence. The less it appeared on Food Network's schedule, the smaller the fanbase became.
After Iron Fans shut down (the site doesn't even exist anymore, not even as an archive), Kitchen Stadium became the last refuge for Iron Chef fans. That's why I've never shut the site down. Outside of tuthead's site, which we're still proudly partnered with, there really isn't anywhere else for Iron Chef fans to go!
I'd love to reignite the fanbase and gather the old crowd together again. Perhaps we could even restart the RPG section of the site, which used to be a huge draw for lots of members. As a privacy-conscious administrator, I'm always wary of stepping outside of the boundaries of the board to contact members, but I've been thinking lately of sending out a mass email to all site members announcing some sort of reunion. Do you think that's something the old gang would still be interested in? Or has the Iron Chef fan community truly disappeared? I'm almost afraid to find out.

Hi ManAlive!
Indeed, it is a risky move, but I doubt you would get too many responses. Some may appreciate the effort, but at the end of the day it is what it is. Folks don't congregate over IC any more because of the reasons you mentioned. Now, that said, there are fans who renew their interest, like myself. These fans may not be aware that Tut has so many marvelous never-before-seen-in-America episodes available. Maybe, just maybe if you made that point the highlight of your e-mail, it may help to bolster a little bit of activity. Again, I am glad that you (and Tut, and his suppliers of episodes) are keeping the flame lit, and I pray it never dies. Thank you for all you do!

I've been in and out every once in a while. I asked a question a few days ago and would love to share some things that I've been saving since... Oh... Six years ago?

Hi Mandy,
Pray tell, what have you been holding on to all these years?

Hi Mandy, Pray tell, what have you been holding on to all these years? My own personal episode guide of IC. I have about 20-something VHS "volumes", containing anywhere from six to eight shows (depending on if I have the commercials on the tape) and I just decided that one day, I was going to make little notes. So I have no idea how many episodes I actually have on tape and in the guide, but just in case I accidentally throw everything out, I'll have something online to work on. I hope. Which is why I posed the question a few days ago. I wanted to know where I could stick my episode guide of sorts.

Why else would I set upon the task of watching the shows in order of original broadcast? I may be up for helping you with this, if it gets off the ground.

I haven't had to check "Ask the Administration" in years. Most of the time, members just shoot me PMs with questions. I just posted an answer in your thread!

The Iron Chef lurkers are still very much alive and active.
My site has been delivering 401 Gigabytes of IC episodes a month. That's about 800 episode downloads monthly - or 26 a day.
Sayonara!

Yeah. Somebody is still watching them.
From May of last year through the first part of April 2011, the ICC has transferred a little over 14 terabytes. (My volume has ranged from a low of 850 gigabytes/month to a high of 1800 gigabytes/month during that span.)
There have been 218,000+ downloads from the file database since it was created on 2/1/08.
(Not bad for a show from another country that hasn't been produced in 10 years.)

I really wish all of the downloaders would step up in the forums, so that the community can flourish once more. We who love Iron Chef, never get tired of talking about it That said, I am glad the downloads are steady. That shows good support for your site and good encouragement to us fans that the show we love still has its following.

It's wonderful that people are still watching the show. It's a classy series that has truly stood the test of time. ICJ is in a league of its own. Now we just need some of those lurkers to drop by and strike up a conversation. After all, it's always fun to talk to other fans!

I don't remember when exactly I discovered this site, but all I can say is WOW! I've seen some battles that I never even dreamed of seeing (Nakamura vs. Michiba, the Japan Cup, World Cup '97).
I've been lurking here for a while, so I guess it's time I hopped on the bandwagon to keep this fan community alive.
