A bit on Wikipedia states that regular judge Masaaki Hirano, Rosanjin Scholar, died of a heart attack in 2008. Can anyone shed anymore light on this? A Google search doesn't reveal much.

That's true. He was born in 1931 (same year as Michiba). He was old. It was cardiac infarct. He passed away at a hospital in Chiba, Japan, his home town. His father was a chef for Rosanjin. Also he was an ex-coworker of Asako Kishi, a great judge, you know. Big loss for Japanese culinary field.

I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself before my comment. I'm Miwa. I just joined this site today. My comment was by the resource of a Japanese site. I just became a fan of Iron Chef as I was checking a lot about the original Iron Chef Japan after I knew the renewal version 2012 would start last October. I, of course, watched it timely on TV before, and I liked it, but now, love it.

Welcome to the site, Miwa! We are always happy to hear from Iron Chef fans, whether they have just discovered it or have watched for many years.

Thank you for your kind words! I'm in Japan. I was actually confused if I should take part in this site because my English skill is not enough to write in this kind of site. But I just decided to join! Because we don't have this kind of exciting site here in Japan. If you don't mind, I would like to introduce Japanese info about Iron Chef Japan. Thank you!

Miwa, you are the perfect person to take part in this site! It will be so nice to have someone who speaks and writes Japanese to help the rest of us understand and translate information from Japan about Iron Chef, both the original series and the new Iron Chef show.
And as for your ability with English, you are able to make yourself understood, which is a very good start. Perhaps you will learn more from us as you participate with us in our interest in Iron Chef.

Thank you very much! I'm happy if you don't mind my participation to here.
If you don't understand my English...probably possible sometimes...in that case, appreciate if you point it out and teach (correct) me or pls feel free to ignore^^
Also I hope I can be useful to help your Japanese reading.
