Ota - Kuie-san, The Iron Chef has his pumpkins and is beginning to peal some of them. As with the challenger chef, IC Ishinabe has many small pumpkins. Tell me Ishinabe-san, what are your ideas today with regard to your flavors? I see you also have several varieties of apples and mushrooms available. How many dishes do you think you will be able to make?

Ota - Kuie-san, The Iron Chef has his pumpkins and is beginning to peal some of them. As with the challenger chef, IC Chen has many small pumpkins. Tell me Chen-san, what are your ideas today with regard to your flavors? I see you also have several varieties of apples and mushrooms available. How many dishes do you think you will be able to make? Fukui: Ohta, if you keep calling Iron Chef Ishinabe "Chen-san," he's going to ignore you just like the challenger is! Also with us today in the Royal Box is Okada Masumi. I believe Ohta is up there now getting a few words with our special guest. Take it away, big guy!

*As Barber's two assistance begin to peel and chop the small pumpkins, Barber comes up from the pantry area carrying three zucchinis, a butternut squash, a spaghetti squash, and a 5-pound sack of onions.*
Barber: *putting the squashes and onions down* "Okay, remember to save one of these--" *points to an untouched pumpkin* "--because we'll be grating that one later."
*Barber pulls out his kitchen knife, jabs it into the big pumpkin and begins to carve a lid from the top.*

Hattori: If we can get a shot over on the Iron Chef's side, I noticed that he is starting to carve up the pumpkin for his pasta. Some would say that the best approach is to carve it in half, and then scoop out the seeds that way.
There are three techinques to scoop out the seeds, depending on size and application.
One way is to cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds with a grapefruit spoon. This way is best if you have a small pumpkin and you are after the meat of the pumpkin.
Another way is to cut the pumpkin into quarters and scoop out the seeds with a knife. This way is best if you have a medium pumpkin and you are after the meat of the pumpkin.
The final way is to cut a lid at the top of the pumpkin and get out the seeds by hand. It would be hard work, but if you are using the large pumpkin for decorative purposes, or small ones for use as bowls, then this would be your best option.

Okada: I'm glad to be here so close to that action. I'm usually in the control room where I can't smell all the wonderful aromas. The challenger's menu will be a treat. I look foward to the Bisque and the stew.

post.... Who the heck is Okada Masumi? end... Post ------------ A Japanese actor. :(Oh, OK. Sorry gang, I'm highly medicated for allergies. The sagebrush is running rampant and I'm extremely affected by it so if I get flaky, please forgive me. My eyes are watering so badly that I must keep dabbing at them, and my nose is like a faucet. I think Ota is going to be in trouble for this........lol end...

*Barber has finished carving the pumpkin lid, opening up the pumpkin. He pulls out the pulp and is separating out the seeds onto a foil-lined hotel pan, with Keiichi's help. Isao has preheated the oven and is now piercing the spaghetti squash with a fork.*
Barber: "Once we get these seeds roasted, they'll make a great ingredient for the salad."
