MA, go to [glow=red,2,300]www.wildbirds.com [/glow]and on the left side of the page that opens, scroll down until you see a site called feeder and yard birds and click on that. A page listing birds on the left will open. Scroll down to the towhee, you got to see this guy. The picture doesn't do it justice. But it's cool. Wow! That's one unique bird! I wish I could see one of those in person.

It is beautiful. I saw it again today but it was flying out of the apple tree and away. I have recently discovered there is a pair of woodpeckers, male and female. The male is red, black and white, the female is light grey and is covered in black polka-dots. Chichi and Chacha are sitting in the small pine tree hanging on for dear life; the winds are blowing 15 to 20 mph.

I went out to rake leaves in the drive way this morning, filled 8 big bags and not finished yet. Then I walked around the front yard and found a large, dead Sparrow. Hmmm, wonder how it died. Poor baby. I left it for the coyotes. They clean the yard of dead animals. I hate it when the birds die. But that's a part of nature (yes, I know. Ya'll have told me enough time). The apple tree still has a million apples on it but no leaves. Looks funny. It was full of feasting Starlings this morning.

I bet the Starlings were happy about that. It sounds like you live in a beautiful place.

The wind has been blowing very hard here for the past 3 or 4 days, like steadily at 30 and 40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph. The apple tree has been full of Starlings, almost like a scene out of that movie The Birds. But the birds keep getting blown out of the tree by the strong winds and it cracks me up to see them try to fly back. Many give up and eat the apples on the ground. Then the wind blows more apples off the tree onto the ground and startles the birds and they all fly up and into each other, even had a few hit the house from being blown by the wind. I shouldn't laugh but they look so funny. There are more Woodpeckers out there, too, but they are larger than the Starlings and can hold on tight.

Looks like Chichi and Chacha have her relatives over for the holidays, the apple tree is full of doves, three or four on every branch, there must be 60 or 70 birds out there. It's so cute. I put a big bowl of assorted nuts out on the tree and they have been helping themselves to it.

Chichi and Chacha's relatives have left. The two of them seem to be having a spat as they are sitting on separate branches of the apple tree, and those branches are not close to each other, hmmmm, wonder why they are not cuddling? And, it's really cold outside. I put a big, pink bowl in the tree next to the apple tree, loaded with cake and peanuts, for the birds. The bluejays love the peanuts but the sparrows go crazy for the cake so guess I will get somemore for them, maybe a big angelfood or something, with lots of sugar frosting.
