Recently I noticed that my Dell laptop wasn't charging properly. So, I purchased a new AC Adapter for it, and that did nothing. Finally, I called Dell and they told me it was a "common" internal problem which had nothing to do with the charger. They quoted me a price of $523! At this point, I do not have the money to get the laptop fixed. Even if I did, I don't think it would be worth it when I can get a cheap laptop for about that same price. Well, I just wanted to tell ya'll what was going on, and that if you don't see me around as much, you'll know why. (This old desktop is a pain to get to work right... )

Good grief, AC! I sympathize with you about the price you were quoted. Have you had the battery itself tested? Perhaps you've got a bad battery.....

Yeesh. Computer troubles are a pain. And working on an old, slow desktop is enough to want to hurt someone, I know.

This is the exact same reason why I won't go to Dell for my first gaming PC, and spend whatever money that it would take to get one of those new Commodore PCs that are coming out. Dell aways has has a crummy track record on customer support, and by the sound of things, over priced on labor too.
Although I will admit that the problem that you are describing did happen to me(and I owned a compaq), but to a worse extent. I ended up with a destroyed laptop in the process trying to correct the problem myself.

Commodore is making computers again? OMG! that's a blast from the past. You can say that again! The first computer my parents ever bought was a Commodore 64.

the first computer we had was a Commodore VIC 20 (it came out before the 64, I think). It had an external tape deck, which took tapes that the games were on *LOL*

Oh man, you've got to be kidding me! The return of the Commodore! Also, Sanji was right about Dell having a bad track record with customer support- I've heard several horror stories along those lines.

You think that's bad never try to refurbish one of their mother boards. They throw a fit if you try and use non Dell parts.

If you're looking for suggestions, AC, the IBM ThinkPad I have as my work computer has treated me well.
