As many of you know, I lived in Phoenix for four years. A great tragedy occurred there today, when two news helicopters collided while covering a police chase. Here's a link to the article: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070727/ap_on_re_us/helicopters_collideCondolences to the families of the pilot-reporters and cameramen aboard the two choppers: Scott Bowerbank - KTVK News Channel 3 Jim Cox - KTVK News Channel 3 Craig Smith - KNXV ABC 15 Rick Krolak - KNXV ABC 15

Yes, RIP!
However, this tragety is what will result when two rival channels try to compete to get a story!

What a tragedy. At least all was not in vain- the criminal was brought into custody.

However, this tragety is what will result when two rival channels try to compete to get a story! You know, Sanji, I don't remember the news choppers covering things like police chases while hubby and I lived in Phoenix. What I recall most is them showing rush hour traffic issues and talking about the day's weather. That said, you raise a good point. Hopefully the FAA and NTSB investigation will get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

Such a sad story. I couldn't imagine watching the crash on live TV; that must have been horrific.

Fortunately, AC, the crash itself wasn't shown. Both helicopters had their cameras pointed toward the ground, and apparently all that made it to air from the ABC chopper was the picture breaking up and spinning a bit before they cut back to the studio.

As soon as I said that, the helecopter belonging to KDFW, the FOX affiliate here in Dallas and Fort Worth, crashed today, ironically, covering a police chase. All three people on board did survive, thankfully.
