Ok, that isn't news. What is news is what may be the cause.
Global warming? No. The math has never really matched there between recorded temperatures, measured CO2 in the atmosphere, and the melting of the caps and yet there it is. Well now here it is. There is studies that now indicate the reason may very well be *drum roll* the burning of coal in industrial nations. Coal that then settles and is trapped in the ice making it more absorbent of heat resulting in the ice melting.
Now notice I said Industrial Nations. The US, UK, EU, and Japan are no longer Industrial Nations but Post Industrial. The difference is that Post Industrial Nations have methods of filtering and regulating things like emissions from burning coal resulting in a cleaner environmental footprint then even Pre-Industrial waste. Coal burned in those countries can explain earlier melting of the ice caps from the industrial emissions during the late 1800's and early 1900's before we/they entered Post Industrial status and yet the poles continue to melt, why? The answer appears to be simple, remaining Industrial Nations burning coal besides those listed, most notably China. Evidently China burns more coal then the US, EU, and Japan combined and it is still an Industrial Nation with absolutely no regulations of it's emissions whatsoever. There is so much coal emissions coming from China that the soot can be detected and measured as far away as the US midwest.
So what can we do? Nothing really. Unless we want to police the world and start imposing restrictions on current and emerging industrial nations emissions all we can do is hold our breath and wait for them to join the US, UK, EU, and Japan (among others) in Post-Industrial status. Until then it appears that no matter the temperature or anything else the polls are going to melt.
So my question is what do we happens now? Are the coasts going to flood? Do we need to build more dikes? Build giant reflectors over the poles to reflect them (yeah, it's silly but do you have a better idea)? What happens now if this is correct?
