Chef Omae is kind of cute. I wonder if he's single.

There is a pic of him with his then fiancee in the pic thread. But it was taken a few years ago. He is really adorable. He doesn't wear a wedding ring, at least not on the show.

Well, he can't wear a wedding ring if he is cooking.

Some do and some don't. It really depends on the chef. I believe it has to do with cleanliness and not wanting to damage it.

I sure wouldn't wear a ring when cooking.

Speaking as a married person, I leave my ring on all the time while cooking. The only time I remove it is if I have to knead dough or some similar task where my hands would get coated in something.

Working in a kitchen I think I would be worried about losing it if I had to take it off for any of that. I knead bread with my ring on but it's a cheap $30 walmart skinny band. My nice ring is in a drawer. There is no way I would cook with it!

I never took my wedding ring off when I was married. But it was a gold band. I think it could maybe contaminate food, being that your ring is exposed to so much other stuff, but then again, a person usually washes their hands before cooking and their ring. But, it's all personal preference. If I had a diamond engagement ring, or diamonds (or other stones) in a wedding ring, I'd probably take them off when cooking, just to protect the ring.

My diamond engagement ring goes everywhere my wedding band goes. Diamonds are tough, so as long as you have the ring professionally cleaned (they'll do it free or for a very small fee at any decent jewelry store) and otherwise maintained on a regular basis it will be fine.

I LOVED that battle!!!
I think it's about as close ICA has gotten to the caliber of ICJ. The food was perfect, the judges were positive, and the chefs were awesome.
I loved Chef Yeo; i so wanted to cheer her on, but i couldn't do that since Morimoto is my favorite on ICA. Yeah, MO! I knew you could do it! He was just one point short of a perfect score. Yeo's score was 55, also one of the highest scores a chef has gotten on ICA.
I've never liked tofu. I know people say it picks up whatever sauce you use, but i still detect the "beany" taste (and i don't really like beans. Yes, i'm a picky eater). But after this battle, i'm inspired to give it another try, even in a cheesecake! I've recorded the battle, so i will have to watch it again and take notes. I used to take notes on some of the ICJ battles.
I can't even wear a watch when cooking, let alone rings!

This should be an interesting battle when they finally airs it in Canada. I've always wanted to see Chef Morimoto go against a female chef. I must admit that on ICJ, I always routed for the challenger if it was a female. I think when I see this episode though, I'll be just as happy no matter who wins.

Yes, I'd like to see that too. I wonder if they'll play up the "pupil vs. master" angle? I also wonder if they'll put Chef Flay in the audience, watching his protege go? And are they going to count Yeo's appearances as a sous-chef as battle stats?
Incidentally, musicalchef, may I suggest that you try doing "mabo dofu" as your re-introduction to tofu? One of the things I've noticed is that it works very well with spiced foods.

They finally aired it in Canada last week. I would have been just as happy no matter who won on that episode.
