Well Some of us caught this (I recorded it myself to watch later). And the secret ingredient was!!! Goat. That is right, goat. One of the few meats I have never tried. I love goat cheese and goat milk and all else I have had from the animal though so I have to admit that I became really hungry watching this. Especially with a curry being made. I don't think Flay expected to win this one. Evidently his competition is something big in the arena of whatever you call that kind of cuisine. I did not expect the challengers score to be that high. I rather enjoyed watching the judges during tasting. I got the distinct impression that Steingarten was in a horrid mood and the CIA fellow didn't like him. My favorite part was the lady from TV badgering them until they educated her on what she needed to know about the taco dish of Flays. Ok, my summery is done. Anyone else?

I've never had goat either, so I was intrigued by the dishes. Some of them looked fabulous.
As usual, I got a great kick out of watching Jeffrey. The look on his face at one point after the female judge made some inane comment was absolutely priceless.

I agree about Jeffrey's expressions- I really get a laugh from his reactions to other judges' comments.
The dishes in this battle looked pretty good. I thought the challenger's wine gel-dots were ingenious. As I've said before, battles are more fun when the chefs use odd cooking methods to prepare their dishes.
As for the verdict, I was a little surprised at how slanted the scores were toward the challenger. The food looked pretty equal, in my opinion. I had forgotten that Flay can even lose!

Goat's not one of my favorites, but it's something I don't mind eating if it's on the table. One dish I like is palak-gosht, a spinach dish with little pieces of goat meat.
I wasn't surprised by the outcome. Andres' dishes looked better than Flay's, and he could have won with the ribs dish alone. I will definitely be visiting his restaurant next time I'm in DC!

I don't think Flay was surprised either. He sounded sincere when he said it was a privilege just to compete with him. Is Andres really that big a name in that cuisine?

I've never eaten goat, but it sure looked tempting during the tasting.

Goat is certainly an interesting ingredient. Very different. I loved Andres "smoked" dish. That was inspired!
