This week's battle had Tyson Cole battle against Iron Chef Morimoto. The secret ingredient is Ginger!Interesting battle considering the ginger's strong flavor. Both chef were careful about how much they used. The challenger's dishes seemed more creative but the Iron Chef's dishes seemed more refined. A dish that struck me was the Iron Chef's soup. It seemed similar to a Thai hot and sour soup. The meat balls in the soup seem a bit to soft when they were dropped to be cooked. It seemed to need some corn starch. The winner was Iron Chef Morimoto with 49-43 over the challenger. Morimoto won in taste and originality.

There were some nice creative touches this battle as far as the show's production went- did anyone else catch the "Battle Ginger" logo transforming into an angry gingerbread man?
Also, this is the first time Alton referred to the original series as "Iron Chef Japan." I'd like to say the Iron Chef fan community created that name, but he probably just called it that to distinguish it from ICA. Either way, it's always exciting when Alton acknowledges the original series.

We recorded the battle last night since it conflicted with something else we wanted to watch. I was worried when I saw Akiko on the judging panel, but really pleased that Mo finally seems to have a handle on her tastes. About 1/2 way through Morimoto's portion of the tasting I looked over at hubby and said, "Mikey likes it!"

Can you imagine the first non-Iron Chef to challenge on both ICJ and ICA?
