Also, please state whether or not you would use said board. If there was a board specifically designed for political discussion and darker world topics, would you participate?

Well, I don't know about dark but I am always ready to discuss current affairs.

I think there would have to be guidelines on what is too "dark" for this forum. But other than that, I am up for it.

I agree with AC.

Well, I think the term "dark" topics is too strong a description for what Seph means. He simply wants to discuss political topics that involve wars and genocides that have before been deemed inappropriate.
I think we'll try a political forum (a sub-forum of off-topic), and see where that takes us. If the subject matter in any one thread is too dark, the mods or I will take care of it. How does that sound?

I don't really see the need for "dark" topics on this forum.
Political topics are very different from "dark" ones.

What I'm getting at (and what I thought Seph was getting at) is that the forum will be used to discuss politics and "darker" political topics such as wars, which have never been discussed here before.
I still plan on keeping the board family oriented. When Seph says "dark," I don't think he means creating topics about death, for example. At least, that's what I thought he meant.

I think if we're going to do this, there need to be strict rules as to what we allow and do not allow. I don't want to sound lazy, but I really don't want to answer dozens of PMs asking me if topics are safe for the forum. So, because I am throwing this out to you guys, guidelines as to what you would like to see/not see on the site would be really helpful.

Well, first of all, I'd like to keep the discussion light-hearted. I know it is not possible sometimes, but with every thing going on in the world (wars, heartache, etc..) I don't want to log on to this forum and leave heavyhearted. This forum is not the place for depressing, upsetting, and strange topics.
I'd rather discuss important political issues, such as the election, the state of the country (or your country), and other current events.

I would say just lock threads that are only published for their "shock" value. If it is a subject someone honestly wants to discuss it is rather easy to tell by how they phrase their question. If they just want to get a rise close it. (As in no pictures just to disgust others Seph. lol )

The more I think about this, the more I see that its a bad idea.

This kind of discussion is actually what I would like out of a political forum. However, I think Seph wants something different. I just don't know how appropriate it is for this board. That's why I'm so hesitant.

It can be difficult to pull off. A better criteria would be enforced politeness or the thread gets locked. There is nothing like the threat of losing your thread to keep people polite.

Make a sub-forum if you want, but I'll be avoiding it as a matter of course. I have no desire to participate in any such topics on this board.
