Well, we all know that, for now, Iron Chef Japan isn't very high on Food Network's list. For the next few months, we're just going to have to make the best of the terrible time slot and utter lack of advertising/attention on the network.
Here's my question, though: Do you think it will ever make a comeback? After a time out of the public eye, do you think it will be placed back in the limelight and receive a new audience and wave of popularity?
I just don't know. I'd like to hope it's put on in the afternoon or on weekends, if not simply to promote ICA. Sometimes a healthy break off the air a show shows a resurface in popularity. Does Iron Chef Japan have a bright future yet?

MA, I'm with you on this one. Let's all pray that ICJ will make a grand comeback!

The saying that "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" isn't true when it comes to television and Food Network. I believe that sometimes Food Network manipulates what shows comes on like Kim Manning, Programming Director for Adult Swim, does constantly for Adult Swim. You might be asking why did I bring her up, but there is a logical reason. If there is an old show that fans enjoy, but the network doesn't want on any more, the network simply can't pull the plug now, can it? Well they could, but their ratings will suffer because of it. The only sure fire method to get the fans to go along with it is to move it around in the programming guide so that only a few people watch it so that the show's ratings will suffer and the network will have a legit reason to pull it's plug. Kim Manning has proven that this method works with certain fan favorites that was shown on Adult Swim. Do I think that ICJ will rise from the ashes? Yes, but not on TV. No. I don't think ICJ will ever make a comeback; well, at least not on food network that is.
My only hope is that we see a boxed DVD collection. Other than ICJ being put on DVD, I doubt there is any chance of a comeback.

As much as I wish otherwise, I have to agree with AC on this topic.

But you know, even if they just put them on DVD I would be ecstatic.

Me too. It would probably be a Japanese or Chinese DVD release though- not that that would stop me.

This issue came up from time to time on the old "Iron Fans Online" site. Fuji TV has expressed no interest in bringing back Iron Chef, unfortunately.

I don't think ICJ will be rerun in a decent timeslot neither. In fact, I think FN will probably take it off the air in the not too distant future. However; maybe then another network will pick it up in rerun syndication. And, ofcourse, we all would be overjoyed if it ever came out in dvds. I truely wish there was someway that we could revive ICJ, it's so heartbreaking.

That would be neat if Spike, G4, or some other network with random programming picks it up. But, I don't see it happening.

Frankly the only other cable networks who might pick up ICJ are the multiculturals. And even then the appeal is going to be limited.
The other thing to remember for DVD wishers is that there are 300 hours plus of programming for ICJ. That equates to about 100 discs, not including programmable extras. This would essentially be a long term project, not including dubbing.

Has anyone been to digitaldistractions.org?
They have torrents for tons of ICJ episodes there. I have maybe 40 or so episodes downloaded. No commercials, either.
I haven't missed it being on TV because now I can watch it as I want.

This would essentially be a long term project, not including dubbing. Some of the dubbing work has already been done, that is assuming that if the release company is willing to re-hire all of the FN VAs. And you also have to keep something in mind. Studios like Funimation, Viz and the Ocean Group do hours on hours of VA work to get Japanese Animation over to the US, so even if they wanted to redo all of the VA work to be "in-house", it shouldn't be that much of a problem if they pace the workload properly. Just thinking about what I've just said makes me picture if Steve Blum were to voice Chairman Kaga.

No! No voice overs of the Chairman! Don't mess with perfection!
