How about this then. We go ahead and put up a thread for suggestions. Every so often, MA closes the thread. MA could then pick a theme ingredient out of those suggestions(or not to throw us off track). When MA wants more input, he could open up the thread again.
The whole purpose of the thread should be to allow MA to get inspired to select theme ingredients. If this becomes a wish list, then the thread shouldn't even happen in the first place.

I can't see how it could be anything but a wish list myself. Why else would we suggest ingredients besides us wishing to see them? I am going to formally withdraw my suggestion and thank Achen for the ingredient for this battle. It's been a blast.

Sorry to say, it wasn't a wish but just as a challenge to see what people could do with an uncommon item.

Okay, guys, let's not let this get out of hand. This is exactly why I didn't have this thread from the beginning- it's bound to cause trouble.
From this moment forward, I am no longer taking suggestions for the theme ingredient. If I do, I'll formally ask, or do so through a site contest. Thanks to anyone who volunteered a theme before- I appreciate it.

Sorry to say, it wasn't a wish but just as a challenge to see what people could do with an uncommon item. And and excellent challenge it was. I say we need more ingredients like it. ^5 Don't worry about it MA. Sanji and I are just discussing the difference between a wish list and a suggestion list. lol. It's your call of course and I would personally rather be surprised. I just also know that I find it helpful to have somewhere to go for inspiration. Mind you being on a food forum I'm sure inspiration isn't that hard to find.

You've got that right, Arrianna! So, what did everyone think of the RPG? Personally, I felt it was the most authentic RPG experience we've done yet- it just really felt like watching an episode of ICJ. We're getting good at this, aren't we? Both chefs did great, and congrats to Arrianna on her win!

9... 9!
What in the heck? I know that I deserved to lose, but why the 9, ICC?

He was pretty strict on both of us Sanji.
Thanks MA. It did feel pretty authentic to me as well. It was a little disconcerting having Michiba as a judge though. Talk about having to live up to perfection.

Why the 9?
1. Trying to create a cute name for the bamboo linguini
2. "Tempura" refers to a style of cooking, it is not meant to be an adjective for a sauce.
3. You forgot tomatoes for your chili, until Michiba "reminded" you
4. You didn't describe the cooking process for either of your sauces, "handing them over" to your assistants
5. You didn't seem to remember how to spell "ramekins," again until Michiba "reminded" you
You see the drift? I gather that real life probably distracted you. Even so, your gameplay was somewhat careless, so of course I would give a lower mark.

Thanks AC. Any chance you'll explain my score as well ICC? I have to admit when I saw the scores my reaction was similar to Sanji's. 14! lol So what did I do wrong so I can do better next time?

Ah . . . that was an "in-character" thing, Arianna. A guy like Michiba would have regarded your dishes as definitely "haute cuisine," but still somewhat conventional for Japanese / Asian cuisine. If I had been playing someone like Kurimoto, the scores would have been something like 11-17 for Hattori.
If you'd tried to incorporate something like olives, maize corn, or cheese, your originality score might have been higher, but that type of thing requires knowing your ingredients extremely well.

Ahhhh... Nice to know I'm not the only one who bases scoring on the judge. I can live with a 14 since I can't see using olives, maize corn, OR cheese in any dish involving bamboo shoots. lol

Lol, guys. ICC, considering the food didn't really exist, you did a fantastic job in judging using your own opinions plus how you think the judge would have reacted in real life. Sanji, I wouldn't take the 9 too hard- you still did just fine.
Again, great job to both chefs. And boy am I glad I wasn't a judge this time around!
