Note: If this thread needs to be moved, MA, don't be afraid to do so. It won't hurt my feelings.
I know that the judging for the RPG recently has gotten quite out of hand, and this RPG is a prime example of this(as the 2+ pages of comments on the Otha thread for the current RPG can attest to).
Now I know that MA is afraid to put some guidelines down when it comes to the judging, however, I think that there ought to be some sort of guidelines set, in particular, when it comes down to the habit of judges to "influence"(Arrianna's words, not mine) what other characters do, or did, when the battle takes place. This power must be removed!
However, I also reconize what MA is saying in regards to the fun-ness factor, and this must be preserved.
How can we balance things out?
Simple. We simply grade the performances of the two chefs, and make the scoring mean something.
You all know of the standard 20-point IC grading system, 10 for taste, 5 each for presentation and origonality.
In RPGs, however, we can not taste the food, nor can we see platings either.
In the patented, "Sanji Himura RPG"(J/K) grading system, the Judges still can award up to 20 points, however, 10 will go to the preperation of the RPG dishes(meaning getting things right when they prepare their RPG dishes), 5 will go to the accuracy of the dish descriptions(As Fukui-san would say them) and the last five will go to the Chef's remarks as they present their dishes(I.E. giving details about the dishes's influence, inspiration, etc.).
How about this proposal?
