A new YouTube cooking series could be seen as a spiritual successor to Iron Chef. "Uchouten Restaurant" is basically "Iron Chef" with a few wrinkles: the competition takes part over two rounds. First, a 5-minute round with a theme ingredient chosen by the challenger. Then, a 30-minute battle with an outrageous premise--this one, for example, is to create a dish that costs 100,000 yen (about $1,000).
The "Iron Chefs" (called "Monster Chefs" on this series) are Shuhei Sawada (Chinese) and former Iron Chef challenger Yasuo Kawada (Japanese--lost to Iron Chef Michiba in Battle Anglerfish in November 1994).
The "chairman" is comedian Hiroyuki Miyasako, one-half of the comedy duo "Ameagari Kesshitai," who made YouTube his new venture after he was fired from Yoshimoto Kogyo in 2019 for accepting money from the yakuza.
English subtitles are available, which--while good enough--are gisted translations at best. (turn on YouTube closed captioning and set the language to English).

Someone recently posted this video slideshow of even more photos from the cast reunion. About halfway through the video, there is a slideshow of challengers who were in attendance, in order of appearance on the show. I've tried my best to figure out who was there, but in some cases it was difficult to read their nametag (or they didn't have one at all), and some people have aged where I don't recognize who they are! - Yosei Kobayakawa (Battle Foie Gras vs. Michiba)
- Toshiyuki Kudo (Battle Tofu vs. Ishinabe, plus Battle Cod vs. Wakiya in the revival)
- Kazuhiko Tei (Battle Octopus vs. Chen)

Reading a Google-translated version of the Japanese Wikipedia article, I found out the following:
Japanese: 企画時点での鉄人第1候補だったが、当時は「わけのわからない番組」であり、「なだ万」の看板のこともあって辞退。しかし番組がメジャーになったことから、「なだ万」の会長が道場の後任に中村を推薦して出演が決定した。
Rough English translation: At the time of planning, [Nakamura] was the #1 choice for Iron Chef Japanese, but he declined at the time due to Iron Chef being an unknown program and his responsibilities at Nadaman. After the program became a hit, however, Nadaman's chairman recommended that he succeed Michiba.
Again, this is Wikipedia, so the usual caveats apply, but...this is interesting, if true.

Actually, all three of the 2012 Iron Chefs--plus challenger Toshihiko Yoroizuka--were featured in the first four episodes of the series! I'll put the links up in their own threads...

No mention is made of his tenure as Iron Chef Japanese, but Kurogi was featured on Fuji TV's "Palais de Z."

From last month (September 2019). Nice to see Michiba doing so well.
Toward the middle, when he's teaching the cooking seminar in his hometown of Kanazawa, you'll see he's also joined by a couple of old friends.

Apparently Kobe was prepping his restaurant alone and fell from a high place. As tetsujin070561 said, his staff found him unconscious at his restaurant--attempts to revive him at the hospital were unsuccessful. Toshihiko Yoroizuka, the dessert chef challenger from the 2012 revival, was present at Kobe's memorial service. His Iron Chef uniform was on display next to a photo and flowers. (EDIT: here's the photo Yoroizuka himself posted on his public page: www.facebook.com/ToshiYoroizuka/photos/a.599551586781576/2524098060993576/?type=3&theater)

news.mynavi.jp/article/20180212-Iron_Chef/Some more photos from the cast reunion. Of note, there was a small portrait tribute set up for those involved with the show who had passed away. From left to right: Shu Tomitoku (the first man to defeat Iron Chef Michiba), Toshihiko Matsuo (the show's producer--he died in 2014), Asako Kishi, and Masaaki Hirano. It should be noted that the man who challenged Chen in the ostrich egg battle was Koichi Taniguchi, who previously lost to Chen in Battle Prawn in February 1994. A quick translation of the article reveals that Ishinabe was ill with the flu and could not attend, while Morimoto was overseeing a new restaurant of his in Hawaii.
