That's what I'm saying--it's basically a preliminary battle without being called a preliminary battle.
Although, what was it they were saying at the beginning of that battle about gold and silver? Something about the eggs being the gold and the rice being the silver, right?

Judging from episode 6, it almost seems like Kaga held an off-screen preliminary battle anyway. Why else would he have introduced two other chefs that we don't even see in Kitchen Stadium?

I think my vote may change after last week's episode...but you never know...

Perhaps so, Miwa-san.
But if this is true, then this is great news! I wonder if "continued as a special" means we won't get weekly episodes like we're getting now, but still...fewer episodes are better than no episodes!

Got it, Himura-san. Glad it works either way. Though I did vote for Guillame Brahini last round, and I don't think that was counted.
That being said:
Vote: Since it's gonna take 30 to take him out, might as well start piling on votes for Yukio Hattori...
SD: Both can go.

Well, if I get a free Seek Revenge...
Vote: Who the heck is Guillaume Brahimi?
Seek Revenge: Since Dominique Corby was flip-flopped into the last six eliminated, can I bring him back? If I can't, I'll use it on Ron Siegel.
30-Spot: No, he doesn't need it.
Sudden Death: Go
Sudden Death Nominee: Mark Dacascos

Well, now that I've finally watched this battle...holy cow, I'll admit that I cried during the show. This was the most epic battle yet. Not even during the King of Iron Chefs tournament were the emotions this high during a battle! And that's saying something!

Gadzooks! The floor reporter for Michiba's debut battle isn't Ohta at all!

One other interesting note from this battle: the chefs weren't present at the tasting. I noticed there was an "A" and "B" on each panelist's table. Was it a blind taste test? Did they know whose food they were tasting?

Besides the main theme, of course. Which music cue is your favorite?
There are so many good ones out there, but my favorite probably has to be Kobe's original theme (Variations 22-23). Close second: I think it's come to be known as "Yomigaeru," the cue that replaced "Charging Fort Wagner" in the English dub.
If you don't know which one I'm talking about, watch any Michiba/Nakamura-era dubbed episode and wait for Kaga to summon the Iron Chefs. That's the one.

Hehe, my friend and I were talking about this...I go to school in LA, and we were joking that if we didn't have to study for finals, we could've snuck around Little Tokyo to see if we could catch a glimpse of Sakai.

Also, I thought it was pretty neat that they had an international chef right off the bat--the fourth guy in the preliminary battle was from Nepal, I heard.
Nothing was funnier than watching Kaga trying to feel out his character. He definitely carries more of an emperor vibe in this one.

It's far from the first vegetable theme--Seiichi Honda dealt with potatoes and Matsuaki Okamura had mushrooms.
That being said, vegetables are a horribly under-represented food group as far as theme ingredients are concerned. I'm looking forward to this one.
