+ Dishes were introduced and served to the panel one at a time. + There is a nomination phase. However, unlike earlier episodes of ICJ, this one involves no battles before you battle an Iron Chef. All it is that someone else introduces today's challenger instead of the chairman.+ Like ICA, having the majority of the panel interact during commentary is a big boost to the entertainment factor. Do you think that someone was paying attention to some of the international versions before coming up with the format for this? The panel interaction isn't the only thing, from what I'm reading. + There were three former Iron Chefs involved in the pilot, Chen Kenichi(who was actually in the stadium), Michiba-sensei(who apparently is dying from a head illness), and Ishinabe-san who was in the royal box of the new Iron Chef Chinese. That made me sad. I think I'm starting to tear up by re-reading that. When does this thing air, and is it going to be streamed online somehow? I think I'm going to have to try to watch the next episode.

Akebono. Consider this random.

FYI, if you're dishing out 30-Spots, they'd best be noted as "[3X]" rather than "XXX".

Sounds like this is a passing of the torch, in a way.
It might go like this: Chen leads his son into Kitchen Stadium. They talk to his son, but they get a brief mention about Chen's run as an IC in the conversation. When it's time to pick an IC for battle, Chen would pass the torch to the new IC Chinese via his son. Same thing as Michiba and his former student, but you'd obviously sub Japanese in for Chinese.
I can't think of another scenario that would be as perfect as this.

Holy cow, the new Kitchen Stadium is really impressive. Bravo to the design team for capturing the spirit of the original while updating it to be something new and different. Agreed. Holy hell, Kitchen Stadium '12 looks gorgeous. You notice that there's room for four ICs on the dais? Looks like they're keeping it to four cuisines.

One of the things I appreciate most about ICJ is the variety of judges, and the majority of them being people who are simply food lovers as opposed to food professionals. This. Iron Chef had this wide variety of culinary experts, along with people of all professions - your actress du jour, politicians; hell, even a few sumo wrestlers. It made the show entertaining. Those who didn't know much about food, coupled with those who knew what they were talking about, made it interesting. It was also special when a judge had their own recommendation as to whom would be a challenger.

You'd have to wonder, however, just how many of the original judges/crew members would want to come back. It's been roughly twenty years since the original series aired - as with the Iron Chefs themselves, I'm sure Fuji would want to have a new breed of judges.

The one person I'm most hopeful the producers will try to bring back is Takeshi Kaga. Chairman Kaga was largely the heart and soul of the original series. I know his character was pronounced dead in one of the post-finale specials, but they could easily find a way to bring him back. Kind of like a "disappearing act" of sorts? He leaves his Kitchen Stadium to go to some peace and quiet (maybe somewhere else in the world). Nobody's able to find him, so they just assume he's dead?

The Japanese television station Fuji TV has revealed that as part of a strategy to boost ratings, it will broadcast a remake of the Iron Chef television program That right there is cause for celebration alone. Here's to hoping that Fuji doesn't screw this up.

The ICUSA guys aren't gone yet. This worries me. Jean Francois Meteigner should go to change that.

In regards to your problem, ICM, Ill give it some serious thought, but seeing that, as of now anyway, Im the only one who does the Freeze Frame/Breakdown combination, Ill look into getting it reworded so that the practice can continue without necessarily punishing the players who everybody knows are going to be voted out anyway early on. Ill explain further in a non-update post. You don't have to punish the voters if you do this.
