Fuji Iron Chef official site's "Next On Air" box was replaced to the new comment today. It says that the next nominee is Hiromi Yamada! Heavyweights again! (I read in a gourmet site that he is runnig an exclusive restaurant for "members only" in Tokyo now and rarely appears in front of the press. Well done, Fuji! They are just getting into the swings of things?? I really hope so. The ingredient will be cabbage! Again! He had an awesome battle with it against Chen in original series, you know... www.fujitv.co.jp/ironchef/index.html(preview video is available by clicking at the the upper right of the box.)

It's far from the first vegetable theme--Seiichi Honda dealt with potatoes and Matsuaki Okamura had mushrooms.
That being said, vegetables are a horribly under-represented food group as far as theme ingredients are concerned. I'm looking forward to this one.

Officially, the potato is a vegetable (although I really struggle with that...!!) and mushrooms are not.

I requested several times at Fuji's facebook and message board, "I eager to watch a battle for seasonal vegetables or desserts as a theme ingredient, please!", and some facebook members clicked "good", though I don't know Fuji paid attention to it.... As for nominee Yamada, he is absolutely a genius Italian Chef, but he lives a life full of ups and downs. He is now trying to turn things around. Don't miss it!

Thank you again, Miwa-san, for your passionate advocacy for vegetable and dessert themes... ;D Yamada-san's battle with Cabbage was a very good one, and if memory serves, it was voted 2nd or 3rd best battle ever when the online poll was done in 1997 in preparation for the 50 Best Battles special.

I'm viewing the beginning of the program now. Shouldn't we just make Yamada-san the fourth tetsujin? Is there a better choice for an Italian-cuisine chef in Japan?

Tetsu! You are viewing!? I just ran into home at 19:57 and went straight to TV! and now am about to cry! It's not only cooking show but almost drama! a chef's life...a man's life...(ToT) Yes, Miwa-san, by using KeyholeTV, but it's very very difficult to follow because the video size is less than miniature, audio is distorted, video sometimes pixellates during quick movement and it shuts off every 10 minutes or so. However, what I was able to experience was a really interesting battle with some fascinating dishes. Yamada-san's final dish (looked like a mushed cabbage slaw - how did he do that so perfectly?!) and Wakiya-san's meuille-feuille like dish was also extraordinary. The technical skill required to make those two dishes as perfectly as they did is really impressive to me. Make Yamada-san fourth Italian tetsujin and let Kobe-san challenge him...!! Now that would be exciting. One more thing, though, is I agree with those fans in Japan who are complaining about the preannouncement of the theme before each battle. It just gives some fans who don't like the theme an extra reason not to view that battle, and it's more exciting to discover the identity of the theme when it is presented.

Tetsu, you were really eager to watch the vegetable battle. (^^) Yamada-san's final dish is unbelievable, it's shaved ice with cabbage source and Kintoki(Azuki)-beans paste (=anko: Japanese traditional sweets)!! Cabbage dessert!! We are familiar to the combination of green tea source + anko as dessert but he used cabbage. I didn't watch well about Wakiya-san's meuille-feuille like dish you said but it may be cabbage cutlet or crape, I guess? The pictures here: www.fujitv.co.jp/ironchef/records/130215.htmland I just found below English page today which looks like uploarding more pictures & videos than Japanese page: www.facebook.com/IronChefJapanI reached above English page for the first time today. Though they haven't today's battle's pictures yet but perhaps they will do soon, I guess? I realy feel the culinary techniques have jumped up so high compared to 19 years ago... personally feel that the simple dish looks more delicious. Your idea about Yamada-san as the fourth tetsujin sounds exciting! Some Japanese fans were talking the same thing. Though some others are not. (looks like they don't like a person who had a problem with his private life... There are a lot of "pro & con" about it) Also I do appreciate your comment about the preannouncement of the theme. I didn't notice that concept. Because I am not a picky eater at all. (^^ Now I understand what you say. But, at the same time, I understand about enjoying pre-battle analysis as Sanji did at Japanese Iron Chef facebook today. Before, during the original IC aired, I didn't know how to search future's TV program's contents by internet and I used to buy TV program guide magazine every week because I wanted to check the next Ryori-no-Tetsujin's themes & challengers! lol

Well, now that I've finally watched this battle...holy cow, I'll admit that I cried during the show. This was the most epic battle yet. Not even during the King of Iron Chefs tournament were the emotions this high during a battle! And that's saying something!

I found Hiromi Yamada did post in IC facebook 21 hr. ago! Everyone was surprised! "What??!!" Why could he come to there and say, "Hi"?? His message was honest: It's natural that everyone has variety of opinion! I wanted to show my cooking process more in the show (*the points I wanted to show you were all cut by edit.) and I would like to show it as much as possible next time. And he also mentioned the possibility of rematch with Wakiya again. By this only one post, looks like everyone calmed down from their overheated posting battle. I think that's Yamda-san's charactor. As Ristrante Hiro's manager, Mr. Yamaguchi said, maybe he doesn't think anything about people's stress just like a big child (in this case, about how much confusing this FB page have been in these 3 days due to his appearance in the battle, or how much confusing this show's status has been, and how much the fans were urguing with each other about this epi.). But his only one simple and pure word let people accept him. Ummm..., special charactor. Many fans (about 50) accepted his one simple and honest comment instantly (as he told that he wants to contribute more by showing us cooking and challenge again). Maybe he has something pure about cooking. I really hope he will never repeat mistakes in his private life any more. A very special person. I think that maybe sometimes the line between being a genius and being outrageous is very fine.
