How long do you think this new show needs to run before Food Network starts thinking about getting it subtitled (or dubbed-UGH!)? I would think FN (or the Cooking channel) is the only option given that they use/licensed the Iron Chef name for ICA. My guess would be at least 50 hours so they could run one a week for a year.
Should we start contacting them now to request it? Do you think it might help if they see there is some demand for it?

I think that it is pretty light on the episode count to even consider American localization. Maybe if it shows some staying power then we should contact FN, but not until then.

As soon as any mooted negotiations between FN and Fuji TV began, a certain website would become an instant legal target for both, especially the latter.
It wasn't until FN began airing episodes from the original series that the USA-based IC websites began receiving threatening legal correspondence from Morrison & Foerster (NY), and that was solely based on those websites' posting of photo stills from old battles. Imagine what they might do to the owner of a website actually distributing their videos outright...!!
The cost of defending oneself against an IP rights violation lawsuit in US Federal District Court might be enough to completely bankrupt most private citizens.
Besides, with the relative success of their ICA vehicle, would FN even consider paying the high cost of licensing a dubbed version of the new IC for air here on FN?

Maybe I should start making more frequent backups in case the site does have to go down at some point. And I did think about this subject once the new shows started airing. They have pretty much ignored me (and all the people putting the old episodes on youtube) so far, but I wasn't sure it would continue. Would torrents be the next best alternative for mass distribution?

IMO, Torrents are the best way to go period. It's definitely my preferred way of doing large downloads.

(Man Alive, if you don't want me asking for thoughts on the best ways to skirt copyright laws while on your message board, just let me know and I'll drop the subject.) Your episode downloads have been a unifying force in the Iron Chef fan community. As the show has faded from the public consciousness in recent years, your efforts are continually pulling fans back into the fold. Please don't refrain from using these boards as a way to facilitate your work.

nice comment, Man Alive.
I really understand what Tets said. It may be rather lucky for us to have been able to enjoy Tut's site so far.
I know some videos related with old ICJ epi. that have been put on youtube for years have already deleted by Fuji's offer.
But, on the other hand, I recently find some new-uploaded videos of original show on youtube more often than before, especially these few months. Maybe people remembered "Oh, I have old video of IC" once the new show started. I will let you know, as soon as I find any rare videos before they delete.

Miwa-san, I think Fuji TV has shown no interest in the site probably because there are no more ¥¥¥ to be made anywhere overseas from further syndication. The new series, however, may be another matter. I had a lot of IC friends who received letters threatening lawsuits and I also remember how Fuji TV had all the Los Angeles J-video stores with their old tapes raided by the Sheriff's Dept. for confiscation pursuant to a federal court order. I recently found the 1996 Chinese Cabbage battle on Youtube, but the video quality was so poor it was nearly unviewable. That was one of the very few battles I didn't have from 1995 onwards. I had arranged a trade with someone very well known in the IC community back then (13-14 years ago), but she received my part of the trade but never sent me that battle in exchange. We've never spoken since then...

Wow, did they do such a thing? Wow... If they have energy and money to do such a thing, they should release DVDs. That's one of the reasons why I can't call Japanese fans, "Hey does anyone have Iron Chef videos to share with us?" in IC facebook page. And the trading fraud..., No...., awful... scammed? Not only it's terrible trampling fan's expectation but also she is one of a kind of worst traders. Also, maybe Fuji and FN are already under the pre-negotiation about the new shows. If we bring our videos to there....

Today, I found a woman calling "I can't watch the show of new Iron Chef Japan here, because I'm now living in foreign country. Please someone upload the video in somewhere, in any video site." in Fuji's IC facebook page. I thought, "Oh, OK, I can tell her the link of IC collection" but I stopped. Because I thought, maybe..., maybe..., it could be the fishing by Fuji. Maybe not, but maybe...
Please be careful if you post the comment in IC facebook page, Sanji. I'm trying to be careful, too, not to say you are watching the show somewhere.

The information that I am getting out of that page is bare bones at best, Miwa-san. I know that I can't tell them that I am watching the show through other means, so it really irks my skin when I want to go in depth with something (like the case of someone wanting to copy a recipe from the Tofu battle) but can't do it because I have to watch what I say.

Now that the show has been cancelled after only 13 episodes, there is probably zero chance of syndication, so maybe the threat has now lessened. Please don't quote me on that, however...

Definitely understand it, Sanji. Thank you for your participation!! Tets, maybe you are right. But let's try to be careful. So, now, the 13 episodes will be the rare one for the fans! I'll try to be positive! The chapter 1 will be finished. It will go forward to the next stage. Thanks!! I'll let you know if I hear anything about the special.
