As per the Fuji TV Iron Chef page...apparently the first of the specials has been announced:
2013年7月3日(水) よる11時 放送 料理ワールドカップ開催! 我らがアイアンシェフ日本代表3人と、アメリカ国務省推薦アメリカ代表3人が対決! 詳細については随時更新いたします!
Translation via Google: 11:00 Broadcasting (Wednesday) due July 3, 2013 Cooking World Cup! We will confront three Iron Chef Japan representative, and three U.S. State Department recommendation America representative! Will be updated from time to time for more details!
So...who wants to bet Morimoto's going back to Kitchen Stadium Japan?

Thank you for the good news. I hope there are no Food Network types among the American chosensha.

That sounds kind of redundant there, seeing as Morimoto still does Iron Chef America.
Anyways, Doc Himura standing by if you have any food related questions.

To clarify, the last line of my original post was mine--not a translation of the message.

I know, but it was that if they are matching cuisines again like they did in the New Year's Special, Morimoto would be chosen to represent Japanese cuisine. That said, seeing as the selection process for the American representatives falls on the State Department, a department that I don't really trust at the moment, anyone is fair game.

Some footage in that preview leads me to believe Batali and Flay are two out of the three...

They didn't match cuisines in the New Year's special, unless neo-Japanese and nouvelle chinoise are the same thing. Not sure why you wouldn't trust the State Department's (and Hilary Clinton's) judgment about challenger chefs. Unless, of course, you were making a nonsensical political commentary in an Iron Chef forum...

My pleasure. I have no idea about the challengers but maybe it would be some hint that at 0:29 on the preview video, they say: ヒラリー・クリントンが設立したアメリカ政府トップシェフ集団が来日! The U.S. government top chef aggregation that Hilary Clinton established is coming to Japan! Is there such a group?

I found many articles online about this - here is one: www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/09/state-department-american-chef-corps_n_1868503.htmlIf this is relevant, there are at least 80 possible choices...!!

Wow. Likely... I wonder if that's why they described "Iron Chef Presents...Culinary World Cup" in their video at 0:52.
If so, the challengers may not be from ICA. (and no, maybe we shouldn't call "challengers" in this case.)
Thank you, Tets, for this interesting article. I would share this info with other fans in JP.

They didn't match cuisines in the New Year's special, unless neo-Japanese and nouvelle chinoise are the same thing. No, what they did in that special was try to match up country with cuisine. So it would ultimately broke down like this, if they had their way: America Chinese vs Wakyia Michiba vs Jun Thai French vs Soga The problem came when the ICA didn't have any Chinese Iron Chefs, just Morimoto. And you know what happened from there.

And you know what happened from there. Thank you for making my point for me. Regardless of what their intentions were, they DID NOT match up cuisines. What are you actually trying to suggest, that they intended to do so, but failed to realize until it was too late that Morimoto-san isn't a Chinese cuisine chef? Or that they are so unfamiliar with ICA that they didn't know it has no Chinese cuisine Iron? Furthermore, Ian Kittichai is billed on ICT as a 'western cuisine' specialst, not a French cuisine specialist. But hey, one out of three could win you a batting title if you were a major-leauge baseball player...

I too found the article about that American Chef aggregation. It's on the US Embassy in Japan: japanese.japan.usembassy.gov/j/p/tpj-20121227a.htmlwww.myfood.jp/w_myfood/interview/2012/12/post.htmlIt says that a member from American Chef Aggregation did a cooking demonstration event with Alaska Salmon in Tokyo in December. Looks like they are doing cooking diplomacy by introducing their local ingredient. It leads me to remember that new ICJ got a collaboration from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan as a nominator in the episode #2. (Kurogi's debut battle) Thinking about it, I guess Iron Chef got government's cooperation about food culture? Anyway our guesses may be possible. Exciting.
