Here's a little but of ICJ trivia, in my continued (vain?) hopes of stirring up more discussion. I am not sure if this has ever been brought up in all my years of following the show.
Does anyone know the names of any of the assistants on either the Iron Chef's or the challenger's side in Kitchen Stadium? Do we know if they use the same assistants every episode (probably not), or how frequent the assistants that return are on the show?

The only one that I think was mentioned by name was Kenichi Miyanaga, who was a frequent assistant to Iron Chef Michiba. (Miyanaga was the first challenger on the 2012 Japanese revival, as you might remember.) Other than that, I don't think they made a big deal of mentioning the assistants' names like they do on Iron Chef America.

Nice find, okonomiyagi! I haven't seen the 2012 revival (and from what I hear, it's a mixed bag) - I wish it would have succeeded in Japan, but this is still further evidence that nothing can replace the original Ryori no Tetsujin!
Iron Chef America's sous chefs were different, in that they more or less did their own thing without instruction, almost as if the whole affair was staged long before the theme was announced. This is one of the many reasons why I feel ICA cannot compare at all to ICJ. Anne Burreil, in particular stands out - and wasn't she an iron chef at some point later on in the series' run?

I don't think the whole affair was staged on ICA, so much as the chefs and their assistants had already been working together for some time and were already on the same wavelengths.

Well...notice I did say "almost." ;-)
ICA just felt more like a "Food Network Personality" show, as opposed to Iron Chef, which felt more authentic...if that makes sense.
