Yes, portables can be programed to handle all regions for your dvd's. Check your instructions booklet. I changed mine, I have a portable Polaroid dvd player. I'm looking for the instruction booklet but can't seem to remember where it is. Just saw it a week ago. I'll keep looking. There is also a web site that has that info but the address is in my old pc. I can't remember how I did it, changed it that is. Well that's good to know, Mickster! I'll have to check out my portable DVD player and see how to do it. You're just a font of information!

I found the operation manual for my portable dvd player, don't know if it applies to a regular dvd player as well, but here are the instructions for changing the region for dvd's. They should probably all be similar from dvd to dvd players. You will need to use the remote control that came with the player. If there is a dvd in the player, remove it. 1. Turn player on and press the "SETUP" button on the remote. The settings menu will appear. It includes General Setup, Speaker Setup, Dolby Digital Setup, Video Setup, and Preference setup. 2. Press the directional buttons on the remote control to select a category. 3. All the items in the category will appear on the tv screen. Press the "ENTER" BUTTON TO CONFIRM YOUR SELECTION. CATEGORY: 1. When you enter a category, all the items under this category will appear and the items placed in the middle (or highlighted) will be the current setup. 2. Press the right directional button on the remote control to select the correct category. 3. Press the directional button to select your preference. The item you select will be hilighted. 4. Press the "ENTER" button to confirm. 5. Press the left direction button to enter other setup menu. I programed my dvd player for ALL REGIONS, that way it playes dvd's in any rgion. You can also program it to show subtitles in English. I hope this is helpful. [glow=red,2,300]ALERT! ALERT![/glow]I just found the web site address you can go to to get help specifically for your DVD! www.videohelp.com/dvdhacksThis site lists every dvd so just scroll down to yours.
