Guess we all know by now that the kitchen assistants are invaluable, the ICs and challengers could not make the show a success without them. They are the real work horses of the show. Also, girls, some of them are so "nice". There is one who works on the challengers' side who wears his hat down low close to his nose, ohmygoodness! Actually, he is the assistant that got hit up-side-the-head by the "tippsy" mentor of Chef Furgua.

A former challenger in Michiba's era came onto the show to challenge Morimoto. I believe Morimoto won that, If I'm not mistaken.

--------SPOILER ALERT READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!------------
There was the sea bass battle where Michiba-San, and Chen-San teamed up against the two challengers, and there were no assistants allowed in that battle and the Iron Chefs lost.
--------end spoiler alert--------------------------------------
There have been numerous episodes where the assistants, have messed up a dish or spilled stuff out of the blender also.

In the bellpepper battle, one of the assitants did something different than what the challenger wanted him to do, because the assitant was having difficulty understanding him due to the challenger's German accent

Was that the Michiba battle? Against Rutter, or something like that?

I would think it would be hard to have all the chefs, IC's, challengers, and the assistants, working in the space alloted for the cooking. It is probably very slippery, too. Remember when IC Sakai slipped and fell.......I almost died!!! Then too, the chefs have cut themselves many times, have misjudged the heat of the ovens, the coldness of the ice cream makers, etc. So if the assistants messed up at times, that just added to the entertainment of the show, for me (although it was not fun to see the chefs, especially Sakai-san, cut themselves. And one thing I didn't like to see was when the challengers sweat into the food they were preparing. They needed an assistant standing by just to wipe their foreheads dry.
