That is pretty toasty - reminds me of Phoenix in the summer. I know I've asked you this before, but I've forgotten the answer - is your heat dry or humid? And how much does it cool off at night?

Our heat is dry - thank goodness. At night lately it's been about 25-30C (77-86F), but usually it's about 20C (68F). And you can always count on it - we've got bushfires in Victoria as well (in the southern area of the state). They have been deliberately lit - some people just haven't got any brains. Every time the weather heats up, some ninny goes and lights a fire.

Oooookaaaaaay......purposely lighting a fire in dry heat conditions. You're right, they're ninnies.

Hope you're a safe distance from the fires - I've been hearing about them on the news. And, to top it off, I'm winning

we're about 1 1/2 hrs away from the closest fires - at one stage (on saturday) we were in between 2 fires (one to the west and one to the east - both a couple of hours away, but enough that we're still getting smoke) - but the main ones that are still out of control are not that close, but still close enough. A lot of people have lost their lives (last count was 131 - and they expect it to go higher). It's emerged that most of the fires have been lit deliberately...it makes you wonder how the minds of some people work.... on a lighter note (bad pun-sorry!) I'm winning at the moment.

Glad to hear you're safe and sound, if a little smoky. I heard about the fires being deliberately lit on the news - we've been getting pretty decent coverage - I'm with you, unable to imagine the thought process that leads to arson. And just for making such a bad pun, you're no longer winning

KK - I heard on the news the other day about the "toilet tax" that's coming (or in effect?) in Oz. I've heard of keeping the government out of one's bedroom, but I was surprised to hear they've taken up residence in the bathroom. And, I'm winning.....

The aim of the so called "toilet tax" is that households will not use so much water in the drought. But the whole problem in the first place is that instead of using recycled water for toilet use, we use drinking-standard water for toilet use (lunacy, I know, but it's been going on for years). It's only now that some (and I only stress some), new houses are being built with 2 water systems - 1 for recycled water use, and 1 for normal water use. The toilet plan would replace the current system, which sees sewage charges based on a home's value - not its waste water output. It's being based on a sewage pricing plan, which is used in the US (Apparently it's being used in Ballaire, Texas). But it's only a proposal at the moment...

Interesting concept, I must say. And, FYI, I'm winning.
