Well, they are gone. My jays have not been around for the past two days so I guess the babies learned to fly and the family moved away. I really miss them. I think it was the mom who had befriended me for that short time. The holly bush they were living in still holds their nest. I had to cut the bush back because it had grown so huge. I'm going to leave the nest there, maybe another family of birds will use it.

I wonder if birds re-use nests...

Proabably not but they may rebuild in the same place or use what remainded of the old nest to make a new one.

That works. Maybe I could clean it out and get it ready for a new family, LOL.

You know... I've heard of people delibrately leaving bits of cotton and straw around for the birds to use during nesting season.

You know... I've heard of people delibrately leaving bits of cotton and straw around for the birds to use during nesting season. I did that last year for the doves, put cotton out that is. They used it for their nest but I think they were just way too young to produce babies in their eggs because there were never any babies. They are still hanging around here this year but so far I've not seen any babies from them. Maybe they are sterile???
