Welcome aboard!
I completely forgot to watch ICA on Sunday. It just wasn't in my head to watch it, I guess. How weird. I'll definitely catch the rerun on Saturday, though. Sounds like a good battle!

Are we allowed to talk about the verdict since it is wednesday now? If not, don't read my post!
Awww, heck no! After watching the battle and the judging, the score came out almost opposite what i thought it would be. I figured Mo would narrowly win, beating Cantu in taste. I thought Cantu would win in originality. Either could have won in plating. Cantu's plating was more interesting, but Mo's was much prettier (and i'd score that over interesting. Interesting belongs in the originality category).
It was fun watching Cantu work, but i was overall not too impressed with him. Besides, he only used a sufficient amount of beet in maybe 2 or 3 dishes, whereas Morimoto kept them as the prominent part of his dishes.
What's with Mo's new image? I must have heard AB say "traditional," "old," "medieval," at least 15 times. His image on ICJ is about the opposite, but i suppose many American viewers would not know the difference between traditional Japanese and neo-Japanese. And he changed clothes for the judging, making me wonder if FN has asked him to change his image to be more Japanese. At least if they are asking him to do that, it should mean that they will be keeping him on, right? Hope so!

I thought Cantu would win in originality. Hubby and I were thinking the same as you, musicalchef. Add that to the fact that never before has a chef who used futuristic/unusual/gimicky ways of cooking won a battle, at least as far as I can remember.

WOW! Awesome show. Chef Cantu made some really great presentations. But even though the outcome was as it was, our IC Mo did some pretty fantastic things himself. I was impressed, for the first time, by ICA. Omae was his usual adorable self, too.

They're going to re-run it on FNC this Sunday. Even though Morimoto lost, this is still must-see TV.
I'd say they managed to capture the spirit of the original ICJ this time around, mainly because you get the feeling of "Holy CRAP! What's THAT thing?!" that sometimes happened whenever something unfamiliar was shown.
You have to admit, the current crop of ICA chefs tend to be a little conventional when it comes to actual cooking techniques.
