Hey, gang.
Does anyone know if there has ever been an IC convention held? I just love the idea of it.

I don't think so. At least not in the U.S. that is. I don't see how IC lends itself well to a convention, though, considering there is little merchandise and a somewhat small fanbase.

I'm still shocked that there aren't DVDs for the show. I'd buy every season.

This has been discussed at great length in the past, but the consensus of opinion is that while Food Network currently has the air rights to Iron Chef here in the states, no one has yet to pick up the DVD rights to the show. This means that Funimation and Viz could negogiate a deal to do so, but as of now no one is pulling the trigger.

I'd love to see the Iron Chef get a dvd release.
Season sets or even a best of edition, I would snap them up.
I'm actually surprised no one has jumped on this yet. Any show with a strong cult-like following big, or small usually finds its way to dvd.

There are some problems:
1. Apparently Kaga the actor was able to negotiate appearance rights for any DVD release. (This is why his voice does not appear in the "Iron Chef" excerpts of the ICA Battle of the Masters DVD release.) Those rights would need to be negotiated.
2. Imagine Entertainment also holds the DVD rights for use of the Backdraft soundtrack, which forms the spine of IC's theme music. Those rights also have to be negotiated, because the music is too closely integrated with the episode to be easily replaced.
3. There's a very strong possibility that the dubbing team was hired for broadcast, but not for DVD releases. (Remember that the majority of their work took place in 2000-2001, before DVD really took off as a medium.) They'd have a right to expect compensation, or a new dub team would need to be hired.
4. There's also the question of whether Fuji was able to save all of its IC footage, especially from the first season. Quality matters.

I don't know if I'd buy an ICJ DVD release if the Backdraft music was not included. I could handle a redubbing, but changing the source material that much would ruin the point of the release.

Some of the smaller dvd companies(Shout, BCI, ADV, etc.) have Japanese shows on dvd. Sometime soon, I will check their websites for a suggestions or feedback box. I will post a very favorable e-mail to them as to why I feel Iron Chef should be released on dvd. If I get a response from any of them, I will let you know, and encourage you to do the same.
