Over the past few weeks, the episodes of Iron Chef Japan that I've seen shown here in Australia have had totally different music than what the show usually has (ie, it's not the music from Backdraft), there are different voices for Fuki and Hattori, and (shock horror!) Chairman Kaga has been dubbed as well. Does anyone know if this was a permanent change that was done by the Food Network (I hope not!) and how many episodes it goes for if it isn't? (The TV Channel that airs Iron Chef here, SBS, buys it's episodes from the Food Network in America). The different music is really irritating!!!!

I know Food Network used different voices for some of the characters and dubbed Kaga in the early episodes bought by FN from Fuji, which were Morimoto-era episodes. That said, I think FN always used the Backdraft music.....

To follow up on HC's point: the first FN dubbed episodes did in fact dub Kaga during the challenger / IC intros and had a different voice actor for Dr. Hattori.
There followed a few episodes with Kaga completely subbed (and the use of the "Glory" track for the IC intros and Fanfare for the Common Man for the start of the hour), but then viewers complained that the opening montage wasn't too clear.

So, in other words, you're watching Food Network's earliest episodes with new music. The voice actors aren't changed- they were just different to begin with.
I'm guessing Food Network has completely lost the rights to the Backdraft music worldwide and is making the transition to the new Fine Living music on all markets.

I don't think it's Food Network who lost the rights -- it's more likely that Fuji TV lost the rights.
