Yeah, I noticed that the spammers are starting to come onto the board. Any chance that... You know, they could get permabanned?

Yes, once again, SPAM is being posted here but no one seems to notice. Does anyone have the responsibility to remove these posts?

Easiest thing to do is PM MA (admin) and let him know so he can take care of it.

I noticed, too. But actually I...sometimes don't see clearly if it's really a spam or not. If he/she is not an iron chef fan, it's a spammer, I guess?
Basically, I agree with herringchoker. We can PM to administrator (MA) once we find them and he can judge if it is a spam or not and take care of it.
But I just want to say to Iron Chef fans, please come to join us, as new members! ;D

I noticed, too. But actually I...sometimes don't see clearly if it's really a spam or not. Sometimes they have a link to something in their signature, mainly from the UK. Or it's hidden in a long paragraph. I kind of wish Proboards had a way of stopping this completely. Probably won't happen.

Oh, I see... So..., a kind of filtration system by Proboards regulation would be one of good ways...but I think it sounds difficult as you say, Iron Chef Mandy. It led me to remember that Yahoo Japan's message board about ICJ (2012) had this kind of system before, but many posts of good will got permabanned, too, due to too much restricting...

I don't think these are bots, because you have to punch in a security code to prove that you're human when you sign up. (I could see bots getting around this, but don't quote me on that.) Having some sort of filter would be great. Approving posts would be a good thing, but that would take too much time, especially if your admin is AWOL.

Sorry for jumping late to the party, but there are a few ways for the MA to stop such nonsense. The obvious way is to have a moderator approve new members before they even post on the site. This way, if they have one of those junk emails that are only good for fifteen minutes, they can be flushed out quickly and without troubling the rest of the forum. Another way is to create a board that would temporary restrict new members based on rank to only post on this board. So for example, if you have 10 posts, you could only post on this new board until you achieved the necessary rank to view the rest of the board. Here is David Clark from the support board(because one of my forums underwent the same attack) to explain how to do it:

This board should be going to v5 (before too long, this is one of the boards that's still in the previous incarnation). I'm not sure if that guide is for this layout, or if it's for the new layout.

I think that it could work for both. The instructions were given when version 5 was in beta testing, to give you a time reference, so it should work for version 4. Unfortunately, I already upgraded my boards to version 5, and obviously I don't have admin privileges here so I can't tell you a definite answer one way or another if it works for version 4.

Apparently the forum upgrade did nothing to flush out existing members who are spammers. Something more drastic has to be done.

Sorry, but I can't help it. It's funny.
Has there been any word from MA about this and what steps he has taken?

Spammers are a problem on all Proboards forums. I'm certainly willing to take the steps outlined above, but my fear in doing so would be that limiting the posting abilities of new members might actually deter those members from participating on the site. The Iron Chef fan community hasn't exactly been growing in the last few years. Even the revival of ICJ didn't bring in many new members. If someone signed up here to talk about Iron Chef, only to realize that they could only post in a "newbie" board, would they still want to stick around for the long haul?
I'm open to implementing any measures that you guys see fit. Thankfully, Proboards v5 has a really nice post reporting system, so if you guys report spam posts, I can now delete the posts and ban the spammers with the click of a button. I wish I'd had that functionality a long time ago!
