Deadline is reporting new details and the release of a teaser trailer for "Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend," which will drop it's eight-episode season on June 15th, 2022. The article reveals that both Alton Brown and Mark Dacascos will reprise their roles from Food Network's "Iron Chef America," with new floor reporter (I assume) Kristen Kish also coming on board. In addition, Mexican and Brazilian versions of "Iron Chef" have also been announced as in the works. deadline.com/2022/05/iron-chef-quest-netflix-alton-brown-1235014048/

So this is just going to be another Iron Chef America then. Fail.

It’s slightly disappointing to see so much DNA from ICA being reused in lieu of ICJ, but the show does look nice and I’m glad to have Iron Chef back in any form.

As far as I am concerned, if ICA lasted as long as it did, they must have done something right. They would be fools not to use at least some of the elements that worked, like Alton Brown and Mark Dacascos.
As long as the Netflix people do enough things differently from ICA, it might work. I'll give it a shot--that's all I can say.

I'll check it out, but I'm not overly optimistic. No offense neoblisseyx, but basing a show's success in the eyes of an ICJ fan based on its longevity doesn't sell it for me. I'm ultimately disappointed, but will check it out as a curiosity item. In any case, it's nice to have Iron Chef back in any format...

I was just attempting to share my opinion on the matter. If I did offend you, I do humbly apologize.

Oh, no offense taken at all neoblisseyx. Indeed, I thank you for the info. Sorry, my response was probably mis-articulated.

Alton and Mark are two of the better elements of ICA that I'm happy to see return. I think it's the overall presentation that I wanted to see overhauled with less of a sportscasting vibe and more of the traditional, almost mystical feel that the original had. The ICJ reboot from years ago did a nice job of that.
Like I said before, I'm happy to have Iron Chef back in any form and look forward to what this new version brings to the table.

I'm not sure I'll watch this, but I never really watched ICA either. (I'm a 料理の鉄人 snob. Who woulda guessed, huh? ) I think the most disheartening thing is seeing all the comments on YouTube talking about how good it is to see "the chairman" again. How can they disrespect Chairman Kaga, the one true legendary founder of Kitchen Stadium, like that? If nobody (present company excluded) knows enough about the original, why not just retcon the whole fugu poisoning storyline and bring him back?

Well, if we consider ICA to be a true successor to ICJ, they already retconned that story line. In the beginning of BOTM, it was stated Kaga is alive and well, and had send his nephew to carry on his tradition (if memory serves ME right, that is...)
In any case, Kaga is now 71 years old and I doubt we would ever see him again in the role.

I don't think I realized he was that old. That fabulous black mane is now gray.
I looked to see what he had been in recently, and he shows movies from the last few years. I imagine they are pretty small roles, though. (I'm downloading the three most recent ones now and will see if I can snag a good screenshot of him.)
**So as not to derail this thread, I started a new one in the Kaga section with a few screenshots of his recent appearances.

I don't think he's had a "major" film role since his turn as Yagami Soichiro-san (Light's father) in the two " Death Note" films in 2006, which I highly recommend. He had some major medical challenges to survive, and that may be a limiting factor for him.

I was just attempting to share my opinion on the matter. If I did offend you, I do humbly apologize. As one of the OGs of the boards, I have no problem panning this ridiculous "Top Chef Contestants Need Work After Bravo Treats Them Like a Used Kleenex" blasphemy. You don't know me, neobliss, but ironnut does. I'm a purist in its purest (see what I did there) form. ICA, in and of itself, is gross. Dacascos is a hack, Alton should have stuck with Good Eats season 65829. Everyone who's deemed "Iron Chef" b/c/o ICA (and I've spoken to some competitors) is NOT an Iron Chef. Maybe a Plastic Chef, but that might even be a stretch. These lame attempts to revive a classic with lacking talent is just sad. Everyone needs to stop...until Morimoto takes OVER as the new Kaga, and we get a reboot worthy of the original. Rant over. Sorry. Nice to meet you.
