Here's a Japanese morning show clip with the news of Chen's passing, with some clips from Iron Chef thrown in. There's a statement from Chairman Kaga about the news.
Iron Chef Sakai did an interview with another news outlet, offering remembrances of his friend. Poor Sakai--he looks like he's fighting tears through some of it.

There is a special episode of "きょうの料理" airing on NHK this afternoon featuring Chen. (Not sure if it is a repeat or not.) Google Translated TV listing below: Today's Cuisine In memory of Mr. Chen Kenichi The taste of Sichuan with a smile Chen Kenichi, a leading figure in Sichuan cuisine and also known as the iron Chef of China, died on March 11 at the age of 67. I wish you all the best in peace. We will deliver a special program in memory of Mr. Chen. I will grab it and upload to mega if anyone is interested in watching it. 30 minute episode is here: mega.nz/file/ZYoBRDya#7jkUKDsSHnJbATc63nJU82MpZqeiw5wpVMyZnbv4TWI

Little late to the party (I'm just getting back into ICJ), but it's such a shame to hear of Mr. Kenichi's passing. He always struck me as one of the most good-natured Iron Chefs - I loved his ability to banter with Ohta even as he was sweating profusely in the controlled chaos of his battles. He also seemed like a very kind and funny person in his public cooking demonstrations. I'm sure he would have made his father proud. RIP.

Speaking of late posts...I knew about this when it first happened, but never posted here. One of the original OGs on Ironfans here, I was able to meet Chen San at a water purifier dinner in Philadelphia. My wife and I just reminisced about how exciting the experience was, front to back.
