Do you remember your first time seeing ICJ? I fell for Chmn. Kaga that first time, he was so attractive. I happened on the show by accident and after that I searched for the show regularly. Of course once I saw IC Sakai I forgot about Kaga and I fell in love with Sakai. That was at least four years ago.

I don't think I can pinpoint the first time I saw ICJ for the first time, but I think it was a battle with Chen-san. This was a couple years ago. I was just a casual viewer, and every time I tuned in, Chen-san was battling.
It wasn't until a few months that I started to watch it regularly. I think it was one of Sakai-san's Lamb Battles that got me really got me into it. He either lit something on fire or made something explode. I was hooked. He's been my favorite ever since, along with Chen-san.

I don't remember my very first battle, but the first one that I remember is Flay v. Morimoto 2. I remember that I read a Time magazine article about it, and I tuned in that night(the night I read the article).

Can't rememebr the very first - but the most memorable I saw early on (probably 2nd or 3rd-ish) was Artur Ruter (sp?) in the capsicum battle. Really enjoyed watching his cooking and seeing an IC lose was interesting for me at that early stage.

At least five years ago, battle Masutake Mushroom with Kobe-san, a loss for the IC Italian as I remember.

I remember the official first battle I saw, It was a tag battle, Salvatore Brothers of Italy vs. Sakai and Michiba. I was still skeptical then, It was scary...and now I don't feel scared anymore.

My first battle was Battle Pumpkin with Chen-san. I remember it well. It was so weird yet so dramatic I was hooked instantly.
BTW, when I saw the title of this thread I thought Mickster was writing about the Phantom of the Opera, as that's the musical's current advertisement.

LOL, MA. I remember telling my boss, who was Japanese American, about the show and how good it was. He told me I was nuts! But I think he began watching it after that because he knew what I was talking about the day after.......

I don't remember what the first battle we saw was, but we were channel-surfing one night and came across ICJ. We were fascinated and began watching regularly from then on.

I'm like herringchoker. I was channel surfing and came across it. That or I was looking for Emril Live. I have no idea which episode it was. I think it was about ... no I can't remember how long it has been. It was right after they stopped dubbing Kaga. All I do remember is that I sat there for 1 hour with my finger nails between my teeth perched on the edge of my seat.

Yes I do. I was about 9 years old I think and I thought it was a joke. I laughed at it all the time. Now I take it seriously since i'm older. Back then I thought the voice overs were the funniest part. I bet you guys are going to kill me since I use to think it was a comedy show LOL.

Let's see here...I remember being in my sophomore year of high school when I first saw an episode of Iron Chef. I'd like to say it was one of the Christmas battles (and to be more specific, either the 94 or 95 dessert battle). I told the student teacher of my Western Civilization about it and she told me she was a fan of it as well. After that...well, I was hooked.

You're actually right, it was very much like a comedy. I thought it was really funny, especially because of the voice-overs. The guys and girls who did them were great! Personally, I think ICJ was one of the best shows on tv ever, for variety. LONG LIVE ICJ!
