See story tinyurl.com/27vwjjWell that explains, partially, the Next Iron Chef show.... This is bad. Food Network has been going steadily down hill in terms of quality programming that is actually about food and cooking. It's more entertainment (and badly done too) more than learning now. I've been going to PBS for actually cooking shows more and more. Hopefully Mario will end up there as well and get back to actually cooking on air. One more (or less) reason to watch Food Network now....

Wow. If it's true, then it's a HUGE bummer. Batali was pretty much my favorite ICA chef.

Yeah, this is bad news indeed, but I will say this, Batali should have stayed on Iron Chef America. That way he would have had the distinction of being the only non-FN chef.

Wow- that stinks. He was one of my favorite American Iron Chefs. That's a really bad move on the part of Food Network.
It does explain "The Next Iron Chef," though.

No it doesn't. TNIC was in the planning stages throughout the summer, and apparently this was just announced.
I will agree with the trend, though, that FN's moving in a wrong direction with its lessened focus on instruction and more on "reality"-based series.

Well, darn. Batali rocks. It sucks to see him go.
I'm hoping he finds a new home. I'd love to see him back on television.

This is terrible. Batali was my favorite chef by far. So sad to see him go...

no, news like this doesn't happen overnight. I'm guessing they were in negotiations for most of the year and if finally broke down. The Next IC show was a back up in case Batali and FTV couldn't reach an agreement and a "decent new show idea" even if they did.
I totally agree with Batali. If he's not a Food TV chef with his own show, why should he stick around ICA? He no longer has a vested interest in Food Network.

WHAT! NOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT MY BATALI! NOOOOOOOOO! Mistee, why don't you start an online petition?

At this point, I don't think a petition would help much. The contract is over, and the deal is done. They made an entire new series based around the decision.

I don't think a petition would help either. The sticking point is that FTV is taking away his show but wanted him to stay with the network on ICA. Mario sees no reason to stay with the network (and ICA) if he doesn't have a show. Unless you can convince FTV to give Mario back his show (or a give him a new one), he won't be on ICA either.

yeah, I loved the show. Maybe they'll rerun it late at night when I can't sleep. I have to agree with Eiko though nor do I blame him. Here's hoping another channel picks him up.
