;D That's awesome news! I knew Food Network would do another round of All-Star ICA. The first one was a ratings smash.

It should be fun to see Robert outside the Dinner Impossible show. He sure knows how to perform under pressure.

Now that was one fun show. I really enjoyed all the action. I must say that Robert sure has some good looking arms. He quickly peeled off his cook's whites and was wearing a red t-shirt that showed off his fit physique.
Even though it was a light hearted show, the desserts looked yummy. You could almost get a sugar high just watching.

I think everyone was on a sugar high and drunk by the time the show ended. It did look fun.

Paula Deen was hilarious. I'm surprised Robert Irvine was so nervous, considering his show is Dinner Impossible.

I injoyed watching Robert Irvine flex his muscles and banter wits with Paula Dean (not to mention risk a finger) but I have to ask.... do people really put that much alcohol in their deserts? I have always lived in a dry house so it seemed very strange to me.

Arri - in my experience, it depends on the cook and the dessert. My mother never used alcohol in her cooking (not even her fruitcake); on the other hand, I know a man who made the most incredible date squares I've ever had and they were well "baptized" (but you wouldn't know by tasting them).

I think it wasn't considered a "serious" battle now. There were too many things that were just brushed off. Tyler should know how to roll a sponge cake correctly. Paula's recipes were all things she'd done on her show in the past... not very original (though considering the apparent judging standards on ICA, this isn't as big a deal as it might be). I think Irving was taking it very seriously, but it didn't seem as if anyone else did.
I have a rum cake recipe that required 1/2 cup of rum in the batter and another 1 cup for the glaze. You can't put in much more liquid into the batter, but the glaze can have more rum in it if you wanted it to or none at all. So it's really where the alcohol is in the recipe and what kind of recipe it is, as hc said. You can leave out the alcohol in many baked recipes and still have it come out well. Some things really need it though, like syllabub (eggs, cream, sherry and sugar, whipped until frothy) or zabaglione (the Italian version of British syllabub).
