d**n you, Food Network! If you don't show the American audiences episodes I want to see, then I can't see them! SBS depends on you to provide the episodes of Iron Chef! You saw how poorly ICA went on Australian TV! Japan is closer to us, we like their camp cheesiness! We don't want your shiny stadium and your flavourless Chairman, we don't want your flame-headed "Iron Chef"! We want our badly dubbed, outrageously artistic Japanese Iron Chefs! I want to hear Fukui's American voice, but I don't want him to be American! I want to watch Kung Pow, not The Biggest Loser! I want Hattori to drone on about how the best part of a fish is the bit that fish itself eats with! I want to hear Ohta squeal out "Fukui-san!!!" every three seconds to report on asparagus tits, not some dude wailing out "Alton!" or whatever! That's a bloody amusement park, d**n it! Alton Towers, check it out. Awesome place. I want to hear some airheaded but pretty out-of-work actress giggle and gasp at a challenger setting fire to ice, I want to see Kobe run and spill things, tripping over his pants and giggling insanely! I want to watch Chen flipping woks, taste testing everything, scrambling around in the last seconds, the sweat dripping from his brow and soaking through his hat! I want to see Morimoto look on in vague confusion as his opponent does something absolutely outrageous, then hear him comment "I'm supposed to be the crazy one!"! I want to watch Sakai squirm when the theme ingredient attaches itself to him! I want to hear him whine about how he hates octopi, how "they stick on yooou!" yet how he still manages to win the battle! I want to see Kaga. Just. Kaga. I want to see him, every Saturday night at 8:40pm, sometimes slightly earlier if SBS is being funny. I want to see him pop an entire pastry in his mouth, munching on it happily. I want to see him bite oh-so-orgasmically into the yellow capsicum, I want to see him choke/giggle as the camera zooms out, I want to see the FLAMES! I want to see Kaga's subtitles saying different things to his dub, I want to see his subtitles when he's NOT dubbed! I want to finish this rant, but I have Biology! Rah!
AND WHY IS DA/\/\N A SWEAR WORD, WTH

I feel you, TC, really I do. On this forum and others there has been speculation as to why FN has gone in the direction it has, dumping ICJ for ICA. The suggestion I heard that makes the most sense (at least to me) is that it's cheaper for FN to have ICA than to pay Fuji for airing rights, hiring the VO artists, re-editing to fit the North American format for commercial breaks, etc.

But no matter where you go, any casual television fan will tell you that ICJ is much better than ICA. I just don't see the logic behind their decision.
Newly dubbed or redubbed episodes of Iron Chef Japan with updated graphics and quality would probably draw a large audience.

Newly dubbed or redubbed episodes of Iron Chef Japan with updated graphics and quality would probably draw a large audience. You should have seen the rating drop when SBS replaced ICJ with ICA. Newly dubbed? You mean with different voice actors? Well... as long as they keep it camp, that's fine with me. Providing they show episodes we haven't seen. I feel you, TC, really I do. On this forum and others there has been speculation as to why FN has gone in the direction it has, dumping ICJ for ICA. What's better, paying a bit extra {okay, maybe a bit more than a bit} and having a much bigger viewer base, or paying slightly less to make their own version?! I mean, it's not like they have to pay for all the truffles and foie gras they use on ICJ!

Food Network really should try to obtain episodes from '93 or '96-'97... Just episodes that are still lurking in Fuji's vaults is fine by me. I'd love to see the Nakamura episodes. Kobe's debut. Ishinabe as a regular (sans the chicken battle that's already aired). Something new, please.

And I don't think MA meant new voice actors, just the dubbing of episodes that have not previously aired in English.

I know how you feel, TC. I remember the week FN stopped airing ICJ, I called FN several times, just letting them know how upset we all were. Obviously, that never did anything.

Hmm... Maybe you just didn't put enough force into it? Because complaining sure helped us get back to ICJ! ICA only lasted... 2 episodes or so here?
But then again, we're over here. Little Australia with the population of one of your states. :/ Americans, as a whole, like American things...
I don't think I'll ever follow their logic. They should've just dubbed the whole lot and be done with it, rather than go down the path they have.
And they should've bloody well released it on DVD.

I'd absolutely love it if the Japanese version was put to DVD. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I don't think my DVD player would ever take a break, however, and that might piss people off.

And they should've bloody well released it on DVD. Unfortunately, that is up to Fuji to do because they own the show rights, and for whatever reason they have chosen not to.

I feel for you I really do, but that was a hysterical rant. Truth be told, I haven't watched IC America in weeks, possibly months. I just haven't had any interest in it at all. I would watch IC Japan... but that'd be all on my computer now. You did see tuthead's post about his new video streaming/dl site right? www.ironcheffans.info/and some eps are still up at Stage6 as well. www.stage6.com/Iron-Chef
