ishinabelover111: I've gotten back into iron chef after I recalled watching it whenever it aired on SBS, but I am struggling to find any sort of solid archive for the show that is still maintained today. ironchefdb.com only has links to youtube videos and not enough info

Well, as anyone from Iron Fans can attest, I had no problem allowing people have pics in their sig. Then, when everyone was deciding which IC board to go to upon Iron Fans' closing, lots of members with slower connection speeds told me KS was too slow from all the signature pictures, especially the animated ones.
Perhaps a site survey could reveal if anyone who actually uses the site has a problem with it. As you all know, I'm pretty flexible with stuff like this.
Well I prefer 450x115 and 60KB as max for dial up friendly but that's just personal preference. Less then that and I start having trouble getting images to fit. Thinking about it Sanji is right though. If you do want to be strict on dial up 35KB is a better number for real easy page loading especially with the background on this site.

I agree about the background. I'm spoiled- I have an extremely fast internet connection. I forget what it's like to have dial-up, so you guys have to walk me through what works best for slow connections.
For that it's the KB that matters not the px size. You don't really have to limit the physical size if you limit the KB. For that Sanji is right. If you want it to load quickly for those with dial up 35KB is the best limit. If you limit any images linked to on the site to that, signature or otherwise, you will make it much easier all around.

Yes, there is, eiko. You can turn off avatars and signatures in your profile.
I think this is a decision that should be made by the site as a whole. I was thinking about starting a poll asking members whether or not they think images should be allowed in signatures. Do you guys think this is something worth investing time in? If so, I'll start the poll right away, and direct members there through PM.
Sure, make a poll. You can always give a few different options for the poll and see just how strict people want to be. Like a)35KB b)50KB c)60KB d)80KB e)none. It wouldn't hurt to have it apply to all images on the site since I know it can take a while to load thread with a lot of graphics links in them.

Well, sometimes it's unavoidable when posting a picture in a thread, so it's a little harsh to regulate that, but as for setting small but workable limits for avatars and sigs, I'm all for it. I'll start the poll and send out the PMs tomorrow- I can't wait to see how this turns out.
