10 SECONDS TO GO!
Fukui: Challenger Kentaro, coming back to Kitchen Stadium to once again face off against Iron Chef Chen Kenichi, hoping to regain his honor by winning the battle this time out. The theme was tomatoes, a clever verbal twist on his last ingredient, potatoes.

Ota- (Chef Kentaro, how do you think the battle went? Your mother feels that you will be the victor today. What percent do you give your dishes as turning out well?

Oh, I think that my dishes came out at about 95%. Since I've battled before the time limit wasn't an issue. It was a rush to get the soba noodles and gnocchi ready in the last five minutes so they could be served al dente. The tomatoes were of excellent quality. But I gave it my best and I plan to win!

Ota - (Thank you Chef Kentaro. IC Chen. You were on fire in this battle. Were you anxious about battling this particular challenger? And how do you think you did? Do you think you will win today.

Fukui: Thanks, Ohta!
DISH PRESENTATION
Fukui: Chef Kentaro offers five dishes to present to the panel.
First is Grape Tomato Salad with Edamame and Ginger-Soy Dressing - The sweetness of grape tomatoes is accentuated by the spicy ginger soy dressing. The slightly steamed edamame is an excellent accompaniment to the grape tomatoes.
Second is Potato Gnocchi with Roasted Tomato Sauce - Inspired by the challenger’s travels to Italy, potato gnocchi is served with a slow-roasted tomato sauce. Roasting the tomatoes has brought out the inherent sweetness of the tomatoes and sprigs of basil compliment the flavors of the dish.
Third is Kobe Beef & Roasted Tomato Stew, Japanese Flavor.- A true masterpiece. The Challenger has tapped his Japanese roots to produce a stew that shows his mastery of balance and flavor. The Kobe beef was quickly stir-fried to seal in the flavor and then added to Roasted Tomatoes and other vegetables for a truly satisfying dish. Sun-dried Tomato and Mozzarella Bruschetta accompany to soak up the stew.
Fourth is Tomato, Basil, and Pine Nut Sorbet! - The challenger has decided to take advantage of the affinity of tomatoes and basil to cleanse the palate of the judges after the stew. The toasted pine nuts add a nutty taste that contrasts with the texture of the rest of the sorbet.
Last is Soba Noodles Arrabiata - An unusual dish combining the flavors of Japanese, China, and Italy. Freshly prepared Soba Noodles are filled with tomato flavor and are combined with a roasted garlic tomato sauce and spicy Chinese Sichuan peppers.
Iron Chef Chen has created six dishes today.
First up is Chinese Vegetable Gazpacho
It’s a hot, sweet and sour version consists of both hot bean paste and sweet and sour sauce. Loaded with grounded frozen corn, cabbage, carrots, onions, peas, spinach, diced tomatoes and infused with tomato puree blended and chilled for frozen appetizer. Garnish with mint leaves for perfection.
Second, Szechwan Beef Stew & Tomatoes.
Again with a hot, sweet and sour flavor blending with potatoes, onions, whole roma tomatoes, carrots and leeks with a touch of hot bean paste and sweet and sour sauce and a hint of garlic and mint.
Third, Hot & Sour Tomato Soup.
A whole different of Egg Drop Soup using egg whites with tomato puree and chicken stock. Also diced tomatoes and scallions are in to top off a very big taste.
Fourth is Hot Chili Prawns & Tomato Fried Rice.
Cooked rice fried with egg, bean sprouts, cherry tomatoes and scallions with a hint of garlic, sesame oil and soy sauce. The prawns made out of hot bean paste and red hot chilies in honor of his late father.
Fifth, Chicken & Tomato Lo Mein.
Soft noodle dish with peas, carrots, peppers, bean sprouts, diced tomatoes, and scallions. The chicken is cut into fine strips for great tasting all incorporating with a light rice wine vinegar and sesame oil and tomato paste.
Last, with time left to spare is Pork Stuffed Tomatoes.
Using tomatoes as cups, inside cooked pork with soy sauce, diced tomatoes, scallions, bean sprouts and bell peppers to suit an amazing mix of cooked rice. It’s all infused with sweet and sour sauce.

Mmmm. This dressing is fantastic. The slight "crunch" of the tomatoes and the edamame is wonderful, they all go together wonderfully. This dish is great.

Kanoh: I must agree. The tomatoes and the dressing is harmonized by the edamame, and the texture is crunchy, witch is great for a salad.

Hirano: This dish is an excellent way to start your course. Very well done. As Takata-san said, the crispness of the entire dish adds a certain edge to the flavor- good job.
Post ------------------- Kurimoto, I forgot to mention that you can wait for as many judges as you like for each dish. It's probably better if you don't wait for all of us before moving on to the next dish. It's best if you get about two comments for each, and then move on. It speeds things up that way. ------------------- End
