I don't know yet but it looks like Fuji sees nothing more than what's right in front of them(rating), because low rating means that their sponsers are getting away. (before exporting it to other countries...) But if they, somehow, keep this series on the air for 7 years, the production cost (a dozen million yen for the new KS) will pay for itself in 3 years by exporting the rights to this series to other countries, I guess???
Japanese market may be difficult and different from others. But it sounds true that they had better move the day or timeslot and grow up the new show more and more. I read many comments like this in some message boards in JP. Friday's 19:57 is the time for kids and housewives here! (It's tough for me to come home by that time from work!)

tetsujin-san, I'm surprised that you wrote "Chin" instead of "Chen"! Why do you know it? We never call him Chen but call him Chin in Japan. Chen is Chinese pronunciation that food network started to use. When we read his Chinese name in Japanese, we say Chin.
More interesting fact is that Chin's official name in Japan is "Azuma". He became a Japanese citizen and you need to have a Japanese name to become a Japanese citizen. Then he changed his family name to Azuma.

There is still a chance that it won't be cancelled. Fuji's another show will be cancelled in March and a kind of official announcement was made about it. (I read it @ Fuji's official twitter "Ima-Tsubu") But there is no official announcement about Iron Chef yet, even though the tabloid article said it would be ended in March, too. But this is someone's twitter, I'll keep my eyes open for more news.

Yes, Friday's prime time is, as you can see other shows of this timeslot in the above, may not conform to Iron Chef. (that's why Fuji remade it in casual & relaxing style? ...ie. disclosure of chef's recipe or gourmet report of the challenger's restaurants by a talent... ) When the revival started, some Japanese old fans said, we could watch it much more if they would air it at 10 pm. As Japanese Wikipedia describes, the original Iron Chef aired: Sunday 22:30-23:00 (30 min.) during 10/10/1993-03/27/1994 and Friday 23:00-23:45 (45 min.) during 04/08/1994-09/24/1999. It was rather mad cult gourmet show mainly for adults at least here in Japan. Iron Chefs were unreachable existance. On the other hand, I feel that Iron Chefs were rather like everyone's heroes in the US, AU, UK etc... (sorry if different, it's my own impression) Or, are Iron Chefs still cult popularity in western area?? I was wondering if...(as someone commented in another thread "Iron Chef 2012 Pilot Review") that was why Fuji brought some of international format into it, to be reborn as familiar show to all people in that time slot? (and they miscalculated?) Personaly, I want to support this show anytime whenever they have good ratings or bad ratings.

Thank you very much, teacher HC. So..., going back to the point, I searched the Japanese TV shows ratings data for the 8-9 pm on 1/25 (fri.): (Japanese TV network consists of 1 national station NHK, 5 main commercial TV stations and many minor stations such as cable. 5 main commercial stations are: NTV(=Japan TV), TV Asahi, TBS, TV Tokyo and Fuji TV) <01/25> 6.0% 19:57-20:54 Iron Chef (Fuji TV) 10.7% 19:56-20:54 Sekai-Banzuke (world ranking in variety of culture) ... hosted by comedian (NTV) 11.4% 20:00-20:54 Music Station (music live show) ... hosted by comedian (TV Asahi) 19.3% 19:56-21:48 Kin-SMA (documentary of famous people's life) Special ... hosted by Nakai of J-POP group SMAP (TBS) There already were some existing high ratings shows in this timeslot on Fri. but Fuji screwed new IC in there. As Tetsujin070561 said on Tutheadfs site, the Friday at 8 pm timeslot is a really terrible one. I really hope Fuji is changing the date or timeslot for the air of new ICJ, but I havenft seen this information yet. Only Gendai (the Japanese tabloid paper) published the article of cancellation of new ICJ. After 10 days passed since that, it looks like the majority of Japanese people (net citizen) took the article of Gendai at face value. (seem trusting... ) I have a monthly TV program guide magazine for the month of February. It shows new ICJ will be scheduled to be aired on 2/15, 2/22 and 3/1.

I was wondering if you don't mind, may I sometimes share the situation & information of the show with you here, mainly from Fuji's official site or other Japanese fan's board? (incl. good & bad?) If you want to stay at the original IC's memory, I don't. I just noticed my bad English. I should have said "everyone" instead of "you" in the above. It's interesting, HC! Maybe Japanese fans are in the process you and everyone passed. Eye opener for me. (I learnt this word from Engllish dubbed IC epi. ;D) I really appreciate your hint. I'll try to throw this hint at Fuji's facebook or other boards and share with other fans. And as for the rumor about cancellation, it's not confirmed officially yet but I''ll try to update if I get some more.

Thanks HC. I agree with you.
I think that we have both feelings, "No...it's different from the original one I loved & expected. They shouldn't make the show in that way anymore. I wanted the perfect original revival." and "It's OK for now. I don't want them to cancel the show too soon but want them to develop and grow up the show more and more." If Fuji comes a gutzer, I'm worried that we won't see any more new history of IC. In any case, they are home of IC. I was wondering if you don't mind, may I sometimes share the situation & information of the show with you here, mainly from Fuji's official site or other Japanese fan's board? (incl. good & bad?) If you want to stay at the original IC's memory, I don't.
(Sorry for my bizarre English as usual.)
PS. maybe the dessert battle is coming soon!

Thanks for following, Tetsu! Persimmon, Sanji, I understand totally you both. Kaga was an integral part of the Original Iron Chefs charm. His presence as a host was irresistibly attractive. He could even announce over-time battle and we were excited, gWow!h. (actually the producer decided though) The concept was Fight It Out!! That kind of craziness was Fujifs strong point in those days and a kind of stoic feeling of tense was Tetsujinfs charm. Maybe there were some excessive way (just rumors), I donft know, anyway Kaga left. (But, Persimmon, absolutely killing him was bad!) Meanwhile, time has changed and Fujifs advance publicity for new IC was..., eRyori no Tetsujinf which is a big hit in 80 countries around the world is evolving and returning triumphantly as eIron Cheff... So, I agree with Sanji. Fuji might import American IC style reasonably about panelfs number & appointing system. Because they were not willing to have overtime battles or prepare extra ingredients. (due to budget?) As for lack of character of iron chefs and Tamaki, there were some complaining comments in Japanese message boards, too. But it's getting better little by little. (recently camera often catches Tamaki's face during tasting) I like Suga's "trademark" champagne toasting, too. Each character began to take root in. I hope they don't cancel the show so soon. :'(Maybe we expected too much because original ICJ's golden age's impact is too strong.
