Hello Again, Kitchen Stadium... After an extended absence, I have found my way back to this center of culinary excellence in cyberspace. I hope to be able to visit more often and once again share in all things IC. Very good to see the site, and the members are still here, and the conversation continuing. For now...Happy Fourth of July everyone! Wow, so nice to see another ICJ fan resurface after so much time. I post now and again (very infrequently), but still lurk plenty. I am VERY surprised this site still exists, to be honest - but credit due to ManAlive and the few remnants of a once thriving fan community for keeping this going at all. I am thankful we still have someplace to call home. I think this is the last forum on the Web for ICJ, which is becoming forgotten more and more these days (at least it seems). But, I still have my episodes saved on a couple flash drives. I have YET to see them all - I insist on watching in chronological order, and often drop off when something else distracts me, to renew later - but this show will always have a special place in my heart. There never has been and never will be anything quite like it. Hope to see this forum stick around a while longer - the Iron Chef Fans site will probably be gone after this fall, and I hope this doesn't follow suit. Although it's like a ghost town and has been for some time...it's all we have left...

I am greatly saddened by this news. Life sometimes leads to cold irony - the youngest of the iron chefs is the first to pass away. Thanks for the memories, Kobe-san. You will be missed.

I finally got around to watching "Battle Chicken" yesterday. I realized I neglected to set my DVR to record the "second" episode on Saturday - oh well...
Generally, I was impressed with some things and more unimpressed with others. Here is a very short break-down:
POSITIVES:
-- It is good to see Iron Chef back as it "should be." -- The food looked absolutely fantastic! -- The cuts to commercial that were edited into the American broadcast are very well done, actually an improvement over the quick cuts of the Food Network days.
NEGATIVES:
-- The pre-selection of the Iron Chef and the Challenger are too "Iron Chef America"-like for me and I did not agree. -- The music is absolutely awful. I have not watched the original Japanese broadcast - please tell me this wasn't what was used there? -- The over-abundance of commentators on the panel were not necessary; give me just two (like Fukui and Hattori of old) and I will be just fine. I will say the new female floor reporter was decent. -- The dubbing was pretty bad, like "old school Godzilla" bad. That said, we should count ourselves fortunate to have this in dubbed format. Someone paid for that, and didn't have to. We could have very easily have had a subtitled version, which I know some prefer, in all fairness. -- The overall "feel" of the program, while still much better than Iron Chef America, could not hope to match the original ICJ of old. The "epic" feeling was missing, and everyone seemed to be just going through the motions. The Iron Chef's unenthusiastic reaction to the verdict says it all.
So, all in all, this show did not elicit the excitement in me that I used to feel (and still feel, if I re-watch) from the Food Network episodes of old. I don't see myself going out of my way to watch this again, but will do so if I can remember to record it.
There is a potential positive though. As they are sister stations, and as the dubbing was paid for, perhaps these new episodes will "bleed" over into the Food Network line up at some point. That station has a wider audience, and such a move might (just might) bring about newly dubbed episodes of the original show, or at least re-airings of the old episodes. This would MAYBE garner new interest and get people talking anew. It is probably a pipe dream, but worth mentioning...
A side note - interesting that they are airing Battle Chicken, which was shown toward the middle of the new show's run.

Did anyone have a chance to view this? I forgot it is on my DVR - may try and catch this weekend.

Happy Anniversary to the finest cooking show I have had the honor to view and follow. Now over 25 years later, all of the iron chefs are still alive and well!

OK, it appears to be legit - it is on the Cooking Channel's site: www.cookingchanneltv.com/shows/iron-chefThis will most likely be subtitled. I can't imagine the Cooking Channel spending to dub this show. Details are limited, but it does appear real!

I saw this news as well and instantly thought of Iron Chef! Joel was very much respected in the culinary world and will be sorely missed.

I have the New Years' Special along with the rest of most of the episode run from ICJ, but is one that I have not (yet) seen. I do hear it is one of the more phenomenal specials. Indeed, many say it is their favorite. I will get to it in due time.
Thanks for the link!

Juan, the creator of this fine site, posted on the ironcheffans.info database site:
"Hi, guys! I’m the creator of the site. I soft-launched it in September because there was enough to get started but a lot of life has been happening (mostly work related) so that’s cut into my ability to get things moving as quickly as I’d like. I have half-written blog posts in Draft status on Asako Kishi and Shinichiro Kurimoto. Definitely a work in progress but it is something I want to continue improving, and it’s something I show to my students when I need a live website to demonstrate a concept to them. In fact, the reason I learned about this hyperlink is because I was teaching a section on Google Analytics on Tuesday and saw traffic from this website!
I’m happy to take suggestions for content and I’m going to get a Contributors page up and running soon. Maybe this summer if there isn’t too much on my plate."
I replied that I would be happy to help him in my spare time, to improve his site. I pointed him in the direction of this forum and told him to PM me if he was interested.

Nice catch!
Yeah, there was some invention on behalf of Food Network dubbing staff, but I think by and large, they kept things intact according to the original translation. When watching episodes in their original chronological order, past references in some episodes help to establish a good narrative regardless.

Well...notice I did say "almost." ;-)
ICA just felt more like a "Food Network Personality" show, as opposed to Iron Chef, which felt more authentic...if that makes sense.

Yeah, I saw that recently. Nice to see some "new" footage released after all this time!
